DePauw Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

DePauw Bows Out of NCAA Tournament

2019 NCAA Division III Softball Regional Brackets

The 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Softball season came to a close this weekend after DePauw dropped a tough 1-0 contest to Trine in NCAA Division III Regional play in Greencastle, Indiana.

The Tigers found themselves in an elimination contest after falling to Trine, 17-4. They then rebounded with a 2-1 victory over Maryville (TN) to earn a spot in the regional final in which they would need to beat the Thunder twice.

Game 6 was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth as a homerun by Trine’s Lainey McCue would give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. DePauw would look to plate a run in the top of the fifth and sixth with a runner on third and two outs. However, a fly out to left in the fifth and a ground out to short would end the Tigers chance of tying the game. DePauw's last chance to even the score came in the seventh with another runner on third with two outs, but a lineout to short would end the Tigers NCAA appearance.

DePauw was led by Kaylyn Linder (Indianapolis, IN/Scecina Memorial)Jordyn Fera (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates), Meghan Gonzalez (Lafayette, IN/McCutcheon) and Abey Bass (Shelbyville, IN/Shelbyville) who all posted one hit in the game. Cami Henry (Camby, IN/Mooresville) took the loss on the mound after allowing just two hits and striking out ten.

DePauw finished the year with a record of 33-14, including the program’s fifth NCAC Tournament championship and a first-place finish in the regular season after posting a perfect conference record of 16-0.
