SPEAKMAN AND COCCARO NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Denison senior Katie Speakman (Columbus, Ohio/Grandview Heights) helped the Biig Red clinch their 
third straight regular season championship. She was 10-20 in six games last week for the Big Red. 
She hit two home runs and drove in 11 RBI. The two home runs were the first for Speakman in her 
four-year career at Denison. On the season, Speakman leads the Big Red with 28 RBI and is second 
on the team in extra-base hits with 11.   

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Allegheny freshman Giannina Coccaro (Miami, FL/Palmetto) went 3-0 with a 1.67 earned run average 
last week to improve to 8-5 on the season. Opponents hit just .202 off of her as she struck out 17 
batters and allowed five earned runs in 21.0 innings of work. She allowed just two extra-base hits.

VILLEGAS AND BARONE NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Denison sophomore third baseman Gina Villegas (Tuscon, AZ/Pueblo) hit .636 for the week and raised 
her season batting average to .319. She was 7-11 at the plate and had two doubles and three RBI.   

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wooster junior Angie Barone (Akron, OH/St. Thomas Aquinas) went 3-0 last week, highlighted by the 
first perfect game in Wooster softball history. On Wednesday, she sent down all 15 batters she faced 
- 10 on strikeouts - before the Scots defeated Oberlin 8-0 after five innings, marking her third career 
no-hitter. Barone also pitched the first six innings of Saturday's key 3-0 win over Denison, yielding no 
runs and just one hit before giving way to the closer. Overall, she combined to allow two runs on six 
hits and six walks, while striking out 21 in 18.0 innings during the week.

MAZUR AND FLEMING NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ohio Wesleyan freshman third baseman Amy Mazur (Elyria, OH/Elyria) extended her school-record 
hitting streak to 15 games after hitting safely last weekend. Over the course of the streak, she is 
hitting .524 (22-42). She was 8-10 (.800) in four Bishop wins last week with two RBI and five runs 
scored.  

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wittenberg sophomore Jen Fleming (Dayton, OH/Chaminade-Julienne) hurled two complete-game
 shutouts last week, leading the Tigers to a 4-2 week. She allowed two hits in a 3-0 win over 
 Wooster and allowed five in a 10-0 win over Hiram. She struck out five batters over 14 innings. 
 She improved her record on the season to 5-4 and has a 2.84 earned run average.

JOHNSTON AND GILLAM NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allegheny sophomore outfielder Sarah Johnston (Renfrew, PA/Butler Area) went 8-20 (.400) over 
eight games last week, scoring four runs and knocking in two. She had a game-tying RBI double with 
two outs in the bottom of the tenth against Wooster and scored the game-winning run in a 1-0 win 
over Grove City. 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wittenberg sophomore Norah Gillam (Canfield, OH/Canfield) hurled complete-game wins over Ohio 
Wesleyan and Oberlin. She allowed 11 hits and two earned runs in 14.0 innings and struck out 12 
batters.

WALTERS AND GAYDOS NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wittenberg senior Beth Walters (Westerville, OH/Columbus DeSales) went 10-16 (.625) last week 
with six runs and four runs batted in. Serving as the team's cleanup hitter, Walters is hitting .400 
(20-50) for the season and leads the Tigers in hits (20), runs (12), RBI (11) and total bases (24).  

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Allegheny junior Tracie Gaydos (Sarvar, PA/Freeport) had a complete-game, three-hit shutout of 
Mt. Union to pick up a win in the opening game of a twinbill and then threw four innings of relief in 
the Gators' loss. She allowed one earned run in 11.0 innings of work for a  0.64 ERA.  She struck 
out four and gave up seven hits.

HALICKI AND THORNTON NAMED PLAYER/PITCHER OF THE WEEK

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kenyon sophomore shortstop/catcher Dana Halicki (North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) went 7-
for-12 (.583) to score three runs and raise her average to a team-best .390. Halicki also leads the 
Ladies in hits (16) and runs scored (8).

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ohio Wesleyan senior righthander Emily Thornton (Columbus, OH/Watterson) went 2-0 for the Bishops 
last week. She pitched a four-hit shutout against Mt. St. Joseph, striking out eight batters and walking 
three. She then threw a complete game in a win over Thomas More, allowing seven hits and two earned 
runs while fanning five batters and walking two.
