2011 NCAC Softball Players of the Week

Denison senior Erica Evans had a record setting week at the plate to help the Big Red earn their third-straight NCAC championship. Evans became Denison’s all-time leader in both hits (183) and RBI (118), and also tied the conference single season record for home runs (10) with a two-run shot in the first inning of game one against Kenyon on Sunday. On the week, Evans hit .444 (8-of-18) at the plate with four homers, two doubles, four runs scored and seven RBI.

  WIT - Ross

Rachel Ross, Wittenberg

Wittenberg freshman Rachel Ross earned her third Pitcher of the Week honor of the year after tossing the conference’s second perfect game of the season in a 2-0 victory over Oberlin last week. Ross set down three Yeowomen hitters on strikes, and induced seven fly outs and 11 ground outs to complete the masterpiece.

April 25th

Laura Rose, Wittenberg
(Riverside, OH/Stebbins)


Wittenberg freshman Laura Rose went 6-for-15 (.400) at the plate last week with two doubles, one triple, one homer, four runs scored and six RBI. She helped the Tigers to a doubleheader sweep over Wooster after cracking her second homer of the season and driving in four runs in Wittenberg’s 7-3 victory in game two of the twinbill.

 

Alyssa Lane, Hiram
(Randolph, OH/Waterloo)


Hiram freshman Alyssa Lane tossed a one-hit, complete-game shutout in Hiram’s 1-0 victory over Oberlin last week. She struck out a career-high 13 batters in the outing and allowed only a one-out double in the top of the third inning. Lane also got the start in game two and allowed one hit and struck out three batters in two innings of work.

April 18th
KEN - Prehoda

Emily Prehoda, Kenyon

Kenyon sophomore Emily Prehoda was a combined 6-for-7 for the Ladies in a doubleheader split against Ohio Wesleyan last week. Five of her six hits went for extra bases, including four doubles and a home run. She also added two runs scored and five RBI on the day.

Dani Haley, Ohio Wesleyan

Ohio Wesleyan freshman Dani Haley went 2-0 last week in three total appearances. She logged the win in a 9-1 triumph over Kenyon after allowing just three hits in 4.0 innings of work, and tossed a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory over Allegheny. On the week, she posted 14 strikeouts and allowed just seven hits in 11.0 total innings of work.

April 11th

Kelly Langland, Hiram

Hiram junior Kelly Langland finished a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate with two home runs in the Terrier’s doubleheader sweep of conference foe Kenyon on Saturday. On the week, Langland was 5-for-7 (.714) at the plate with four runs, two home runs and three RBI, with a 1.857 slugging percentage.

Rachel Ross, Wittenberg

Wittenberg freshman Rachel Ross tossed two complete-game wins last week, including a shutout performance in the Tiger’s 5-0 triumph over Allegheny on April 9th. In 14.0 total innings of work, she allowed two earned runs on nine hits, while striking out nine.

WIT - Rose

Wittenberg freshman Laura Rose went 3-for-8 at the plate with her first-career homerun in the Tigers’ doubleheader split against Wilmington on Thursday. She also added one double, seven total bases, one run and five RBI against the Quakers.

Rebecca Dyer, Denison

Denison freshman Rebecca Dyer tossed the first perfect game in school history in the Bid Red’s 9-0 victory over Case. In the five inning perfect game, she recorded six strikeouts, and induced seven groundouts and two flyouts. Dyer’s gem, which also gave her a team- and conference-leading sixth victory on the season, was Denison’s first complete game no-hitter since the 2001 season.

DEN - Robertson

Jessica Robertson, Denison

Denison sophomore Jessica Robertson went 6-for-7 (.857) with a homerun, one double, five RBI and three runs scored in the Big Red’s doubleheader sweep of Muskingum. She smashed a three-run homer to spark Dsnison’s comeback bid against the Muskies in game one, and then capped off the comeback with a walkoff single to right center in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 13-12 victory.

  WIT - Ross

Rachel Ross, Wittenberg

Wittenberg freshman Rachel Ross earned the victory in the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader against Case. The freshman went the distance, allowing two earned runs with four strikeouts and just one walk.

WOO - Swinehart

Lauren Swinehart, Wooster

Applecreek, OH/Waynedale)


Wooster junior Lauren Swinehart went 13-of-32 (.407) at the plate last week in Florida with four doubles, one homerun, eight runs, two RBI and three stolen bases. In the Fighting Scots’ 7-6 win over Albright, she homered and later sprinted home to score the game-winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the seventh inning.

  DEN - Dyer

Rebecca Dyer, Denison

Denison freshman Rebecca Dyer posted a 2-1 record with one save in five appearances last week in Arizona. In her final appearance on the trip, she recorded 12 strikeouts in a 5-0 victory over Schreiner. In 26.1 innings of work last week, she posted a 12/1 strikeout/walk ratio (36/3), and held opposing hitters to a .167 batting average.

KEN - Prehoda

Kenyon sophomore centerfielder Emily Prehoda went a combined 10-of-19 (.526) at the plate with three doubles, a home run, and nine RBI. She also scored two runs, stole one base and drew four walks on the week.
 
  OWU - Barker Amanda Barker, Ohio Wesleyan
(Granville, OH/Granville)

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore right-hander Amanda Barker was stellar on the mound last week, going 5-1 with a 0.68 ERA, including a no-hitter in OWU’s 12-0 victory over Elms. The no-hitter was the Bishops’ first since March 9, 2009, and sixth all-time. Barker totaled 31 innings in the pitching circle on the week and posted 41 strikeouts and just four walks.
