2016 NCAC Softball Players of the Week

May 2nd

Sarah Flint, Ohio Wesleyan
(Westerville, OH/St. Francis DeSales)

Ohio Wesleyan senior Sarah Flint led the Bishops to a 4-0 record last week with sweeps against Oberlin and Allegheny to earn the fourth-seed in the conference Tournament. Flint batted .571 from the plate (8-for-14) with five runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles and 10 total bases. Against Allegheny, Flint was 6-for-9 at the plate with seven RBI to help secure the Bishops spot in the tournament for the second time in the last three years. 

Emma Baldwin, DePauw
(Oak Park, IL/Oak Park River Forest) 

DePauw sophomore Emma Baldwin helped the Tigers to a conference sweep of Denison last week, earning the top-seed in the NCAC Tournament and the program’s fourth-straight conference title. Baldwin pitched final three innings of game one against Denison for the win and then pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout in the second game. In the second game she faced one over the minimum with nine strikeouts.

April 25th

Lauren Godden, DePauw
(Carmel, IN/Carmel) 

DePauw sophomore Lauren Godden led the Tigers to a 5-1 record last week including conference sweeps of both Wittenberg and Wooster. Godden hit safely in five of six games including a 3-for-3 performance in opening game against Wittenberg. For the week, Godden posted a .450 batting average by going 9-for-20 with two home runs, a double, eight runs batted in and 16 total bases.

Abby Haab, Wittenberg
(Dublin, OH/Jerome)

Wittenberg sophomore Abby Haab helped the Tigers to a conference sweep of Allegheny last week, dominating the Gators in game two, tossing a seven-inning perfect game. It marked the first such feat for the Tiger program since 2011. The perfect game featured 10 strikeouts from Haab, as the Tiger pitcher was able to sit all 21 batters down in order on Sunday. Haab needed just 93 pitches to complete the feat, as 73 of which were strikes.

April 18th

Taylor Dickson, Ohio Wesleyan
(Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union)

Ohio Wesleyan junior Taylor Dickson led the Bishops on the week by hitting .450 at the plate (9-for-20) with four extra base hits, 12 RBI and 15 total bases. Dickson slugged .750, scored six runs, posted a .478 on-base percentage and had multi-hit games in four of her six games last week to help OWU to a 4-2 record.

Chelsea Zang, Wittenberg
(Cincinnati, OH/Seton)

Wittenberg sophomore Chelsea Zang appeared in four games last week, starting three and posted a perfect 3-0 record in the circle for the Tigers. In 19.2 innings of work, Zang struck out 10 batters, allowed just two earned runs and scattered 12 hits throughout the week. 

April 11th

Liz Getz, DePauw
(Bloomington, IN/Bloomington South)

DePauw sophomore Liz Getz had a break-out week, hitting .727 (8-for-11) over a four-game stretch. In that same span, she scored four times, plated six RBI and was 4-for-5 in stolen base attempts. Getz hit safely in all four games and went 4-for-5 in NCAC doubleheader with Ohio Wesleyan. 

Allison Cabo, Allegheny
(Woodstown, NJ/Woodstown)

Allegheny junior Allison Cabo appeared in both ends of the Gator’s doubleheader with Wooster on Wednesday, allowing just two earned runs and eight hits in 10 innings pitched. In the opener, she threw the final three innings in relief, allowing no hits and just one walk. In the nightcap, Cabo went the distance to earn her third win of the season, scattering eight hits and allowing just two earned runs with three K’s and one walk. In her last four appearances spanning 22.1 innings, Cabo has two wins and has allowed just four earned runs while striking out 14. 

April 4th

Amanda Ogata, Kenyon
(San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty)

Kenyon freshman Amanda Ogata had a break-out week, hitting .647 (11-for-17) over a four-game stretch. In that same span, she scored five times and plated a dozen RBI. She had two doubles, two triples, a home run and a 1.176 slugging percentage. In a 18-15 win against Oberlin she hit for the cycle. 

Brooke Bandy, DePauw
(Elmhurst, IL/York)

DePauw freshman Brooke Bandy helped the Tigers get out to a 2-0 start in NCAC play last weekend. Bandy pitched the second game of the doubleheader and held Hiram scoreless for the first five innings of a 5-0 shutout. In five innings of work, Bandy struckout six, allowed just one hit, posted a 0.00 ERA and limited opponents to .067 batting average. 

March 28th

Loren Combs, Wittenberg
(Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) 

Wittenberg senior Loren Combs continued her solid play early this season, helping the Tigers to a 4-2 record last week including three multi-hit games. For the week, Combs posted a .450 batting average by going 9-for-20 with five runs, three RBI and was a perfect 5-for-5 stealing bases. 

Makenzie Dombrowski, Hiram
(Streetsboro, OH/Streetsboro)

Hiram freshman Makenzie Dombrowski posted a 2-0 record on the rubber last week. She posted a complete game win over Grove City on Tuesday, giving up three earned runs and striking out five batters. She followed that with a dominant complete game shutout of John Carroll, giving up just four hits and striking out a career-high nine batters. It was the first shutout of her career. In two starts this week, Dombrowski struck out 14 total batters and posted a 1.50 ERA.

March 21st

Bridget Serrurier, Wooster
(Morton, IL/Morton)

Wooster freshman Bridget Serrurier started her collegiate career with a seven-game hitting streak, and has hit safely in eight of 10 games overall. Serrurier has four multi-RBI games, including season-best three against Minn.-Morris and scored a run in seven of 10 games. For the week, Serrurier posted a .429 batting average by going 12-for-28 with two doubles, two home runs, 11 runs batted in and 20 total bases. 

Lauren Secaras, Denison
(Wilmette, IL/New Trier)

Denison sophomore Lauren Secaras made five appearances inside the circle last week, going 2-0 after winning both of her starts. Secaras fanned four batters over five innings in a 15-8 win over Minnesota-Crookston before closing out the week with her best performance of the season, a 4-hit, 11-strikeout showing in a 3-2 win over George Fox. The 11 Ks for Secaras marked a new career-high.

March 14t

Lindsey Susolik, Kenyon
(Newport Beach, CA/Corona Del Mar) 

Kenyon senior Lindsey Susolik posted a .471 batting average by going 16-for-34 with six doubles, two home runs and 12 runs batted in. Susolik accounted for 28 total bases, a .486 on-base percentage and slugged .824 on the week. She powered the Ladies to a 7-3 record on the week during Kenyon’s spring break trip.

Chelsea Zang, Wittenberg
(Cincinnati, OH/Seton)

Wittenberg sophomore Chelsea Zang was nothing short of dominant in her five pitching appearances during the week, winning all five starts while compiling a 1.20 ERA. In 35 total innings, Zang allowed just six earned runs while holding opponents to a .212 batting average and struck out 20. In all five appearances, Zang pitched complete games including two shutouts. 

March 7th

Gabby Smart, DePauw
(Chicago, IL/Trinity)

DePauw junior Gabby Smart hit safely in four of the five games she played to open the 2016 season with two multi-hit games. Smart posted a .353 batting average (6-for-17) with two runs scored, five RBI, one home run, 11 total bases and a .647 slugging percentage.
