North Coast swimming & diving teams wrapped up their 2014-15 regular season training schedules last weekend with three dual meets featuring league foes. Kenyon earned a pair of dual meet sweeps against Ohio Wesleyan and Wittenberg, while Denison also logged a pair of wins over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday. The 2015 NCAC Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled to take place at Denison’s Trumbull Aquatics Center in Granville, Ohio, February 11-14. A complete preview of the nation’s top Division III conference championship meet will be available on Wednesday, February 4th.

DENISON cruised to a pair of wins over Ohio Wesleyan in a dual meet on Saturday, with the men winning, 192.5-91.5, and the women prevailing by a 209-61 margin. The Big Red women were led by junior Marissa Bednarek (Madison, WI/West), who was a triple winner in the 50 breast (30.84), 100 breast (1:06.54) and as a member of the 200 medley relay (1:49.71). On the men’s side, freshman Stuart Hohm (Springfield, IL/Glenwood) dominated in freestyle events as he was an individual winner in the 100 (47.16) and 300 (2:39.42), to go along with swimming the anchor leg on the winning 200 free relay (1:25.46).

KENYON closed out its regular-season schedule with a pair of dual meet sweeps over Ohio Wesleyan on Friday and Wittenberg on Saturday. The Lords topped OWU, 185-29, on Friday and defeated Wittenberg, 247-53, on Saturday, while the Ladies rolled to a pair of victories over both OWU, 183-22, and Wittenberg, 234-57. Senior Austin Caldwell (Loveland, OH/Loveland) was a triple winner against OWU in the 50 free (20.67), 100 free (45.25) and as the anchor swimmer on the 400 free relay (3:05.13), before winning both the 100 free (45.37) and 200 free (1:40.14) on Saturday against Wittenberg. For the Ladies, junior Katie Kaestner (Anacortes, WA/Anacortes) swam the breaststroke leg on the winning 400 medley relay (3:59.32) and touched first individually in the 100 free (53.05) against OWU, before logging victories on Saturday against Wittenberg in the 100 breast (1:06.01), 200 IM (2:08.15) and as a member of the winning 200 medley relay (1:47.77).

OHIO WESLEYAN lost both ends of two dual meets last weekend, falling against Kenyon on Friday and Denison on Saturday. The OWU men dropped a 185-29 decision against Kenyon and a 192.5-91.5 contest against Denison, while the OWU women lost against Kenyon, 183-22, and suffered a 209-61 setback against Denison. Senior Thomas de Haas (Perry, OH/Perry) posted the lone victory of the weekend for the men’s team after accumulating 128.50 points in the one-meter diving competition against Kenyon, while junior Tirion Sheafor (Cornelius, NC/NW Visual-Performing Arts) notched the women’s individual only event victory of the weekend in the 50 fly (29.91) on Saturday against Denison.

WITTENBERG dropped both ends of a dual meet against Kenyon on Saturday, with the men falling by a 247-53 margin and the women suffering a 234-57 decision. Freshman Julia Valentine (Columbus, OH/Thomas Worthington) paced the women’s team by finishing third in both the 100 breast (1:08.25) and 200 breast (2:33.37), while senior AJ Burt (Wyoming, OH/Wyoming) led the men’s team with a second-place finish in the 200 breast (2:12.52) and a third-place showing in the 100 breast (59.56).

ALLEGHENY, DEPAUW, HIRAM, OBERLIN, WABASH and WOOSTER were all idle last week.
