DePauw senior Paul Christian (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard West) and Allegheny senior Emily Forner (Beaver, PA/Beaver Area) were the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) representatives on the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Men’s and Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country teams, presented by CoSIDA.
DePauw's Paul Christian graduated with a 3.88 cumulative GPA as a Performance Music major while Allegheny senior Emily Forner compiled a 3.79 cumulative GPA as a Global Health Studies major.
In cross country, Christian was the 2018 NCAC Men’s Runner of the Year after finishing first at the conference championships. He was a four-time all-conference honoree and helped the Tigers to back-to-back NCAC titles in 2017 and 2018. As a freshman, Christian was also named the NCAC Cross Country Newcomer of the Year.
In track & field, Christian won the 2019 NCAC indoor 5,000-meter title before winning three titles at the outdoor championships in the 3,000-, 5,000- and 10,000-meter events, earning the men’s Distance Runner of the Year award.
Forner was the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field 3,000-meter run champion while earning All-American status in cross country during the fall. She was the NCAC Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Year after winning the conference meet by over 23 seconds (21:38.9). Forner was also named the region’s United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women’s Track Athlete of the Year.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information/athletics communications staff.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America® honors on more than 30,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports. The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
