As a number of NCAC teams took the week off to focus on final exams, just a handful of non-conference games highlighted a light schedule in the conference. DePauw (2-0, 7-0) remains the lone undefeated squad in the league and will return to action this week as the Tigers travel to Puerto Rico to square off versus Babson and Messiah.
Senior Daryl Ford (Pittsburgh, PA/Sto-Rox) recorded 18 points and eight rebounds to lead the ALLEGHENY women’s basketball squad to a 65-51 win at Grove City on Wednesday. The Gators converted 22-of-26 free-throw opportunities as freshman forward Emma Pellicano (Pittsburgh, PA/Mount Lebanon) recorded 17 points for the Gators and had an outstanding night from the charity stripe. Allegheny also controlled the pace defensively, out-rebounding Grove City (3-4 overall), 37-29, while scoring 18 points off of 25 Wolverine turnovers.
DENISON suffered its fourth loss of the season to a nationally-ranked squad on Sunday, falling 66-62 to the No. 17 Ohio Northern Polar Bears. Denison tied the game at 62-62 with 1:15 to go but ONU shot 94 percent from the free throw line and was 11-for-11 in the second half to lock up the win. Gretchen Staubach (Madiera, OH/Madiera) led Denison with 16 points and five rebounds.
DEPAUW who was idle this past week is 7-0 for first time in school history. The Tigers have won 32 straight regular season games and 26 consecutive conference games. DePauw returns to action Dec. 18th versus Babson at the Puerto Rico Shootout.
HIRAM improved to 5-5 overall after picking up two non-conference wins over Heidelberg and Bethany. Junior forward Alexis Kemper (Centerville, OH/Centerville) led the way for the Terriers averaging 14.5 points and two rebounds per contest.
KENYON which was idle this past week, has won six straight contests and is off to its best start, 2-0, 8-1, since the 2005-06 season. The Ladies return to the hardwood Dec. 28th versus Cabrini at the Land of Magic Tournament.
Despite 27 points from sophomore Christina Marquette (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison), OBERLIN was unable to get past Olivet in its lone game of the week, falling to the Comets 76-59. The Yeowomen will head into the new year at 6-5 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC.
OHIO WESLEYAN took the week off from action this past week. The Battling Bishops, 0-3, 1-7, will return to the hardwood Dec. 21st on the road against Davenport.
WITTENBERG dropped a 71-51 decision to 11th-ranked Thomas More this week despite junior Amber Rice’s (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) 20 points, her seventh game of the season in double figures and second at 20 points or more. Sophomore Katelyn Haralamos (Maineville, OH/Kings) chipped in nine points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists.
WOOSTER senior center Jessica Wingen (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) registered her fifth double-double in seven games this season, this time leading all players with 16 points and 14 rebounds during a 55-51 win over Waynesburg. The Pittsburgh native also tallied a season-high four blocked shots as part of a defensive effort that held the Yellow Jackets to 24.6 percent shooting from the field.
