Seven NCAC Basketball Players Earn All-Region Honors

Seven North Coast Athletic Conference basketball players were named to the 2014 All-Great Lakes Region Team, led by four first-team selections.

A pair of Wooster men's players were named to the first team, including senior guard Doug Thorpe (Columbus, OH/Eastmoor Acad.) and junior guard Xavier Brown (Bowling Green, OH/Bowling Green), while the two women's first-team selections were Kenyon senior guard Maureen Hirt (Bloomington, IN/North) and DePauw senior forward Alex Gasaway (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville).

The league also had one male and one female represented on the second team: DePauw junior guard Savannah Trees (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) and Wittenberg senior forward Scott Masin (New Carlisle, OH/Bethel).

Finally, Ohio Wesleyan senior forward Reuel Rogers (Columbus, OH/Bexley) rounded out the list of all-region selections on the men's third team.

In addition, DePauw women's head coach Kris Huffman was named the Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year for the second year in a row. In 21 seasons at DePauw, Huffman has directed the Tigers to a 496-104 record with 15 NCAA appearances, two national titles and six trips to the national quarterfinals.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools. There were 689 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.
