2014 All NCAC Women's Basketball Team Announced; Hirt Named Player of the Year

2013-14 All-NCAC Women's Basketball Team

Kenyon senior Maureen Hirt (Bloomington, IN/North) has been named Player of the Year to highlight the 2014 All-North Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball squad, announced today after voting by the conference's head coaches.

Hirt {left}, who is making her fourth appearance on an All-NCAC squad and her third-straight first-team selection, finished the 16-game conference schedule as the NCAC's leading scorer with 290 points (18.1 ppg) and a league best .948 free throw percentage (55-of-58). She was also a threat from beyond the arc for the Ladies as she connected on 35-of-86 three-point attempts for a .407 shooting percentage. Hirt, who became the Ladies all-time leading scorer this season with 1,819 career points, was eighth in the league in field goal percentage (.472) after going 100-of-212 from the field and 10th in the league in rebounding with 95 boards (5.9 rpg). Hirt, who added to her impressive athletic resume by being named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 Division III first-team, has also been named as a finalist for the 2013-14 Jostens Trophy, which is awarded to the top NCAA Div. III women's basketball player.

Oberlin junior Christina Marquette (Huntington Beach, CA/Edison) makes her second-straight appearance on the first team and third All-NCAC selection overall after earning second team accolades in 2012. Joining Hirt and Marquette as a repeat selection on the first team is DePauw senior Alex Gasaway (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville). A pair of student-athletes elevated to the top squad after earning second-team laurels in 2013, including Wittenberg senior Amber Rice (South Charleston, OH/Southeastern) and DePauw junior Savannah Trees (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville).

Allegheny sophomore Emma Pellicano (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), who was named Newcomer of the Year in 2013 and earned honorable mention honors, makes her first-team debut along with Denison freshman Jordan Holmes (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon).

Holmes {right} also collected Newcomer of the Year accolades after helping guide the Big Red to a 21-7 record in 2013-14, which included the program's 10th trip to the championship game of the NCAC Tournament. In 27 total games with the Big Red this season, Holmes scored 286 points (10.6 ppg) after shooting 62 percent (117-of-189) from the field. In addition, she set the NCAC single-season records for both rebounds (394) and blocked shots (164) and also topped the league's single-game record for blocks in a game as she totaled 11 in an 88-45 win over Muskingum on Nov. 30th.

Ohio Wesleyan head coach Stacey Ungashick Lobdell was voted the NCAC Women's Coach of the Year for the first time in her career after she guided the Battling Bishops to a second-place finish in the NCAC with a 12-4 record against league foes. In three total seasons at OWU, Lobdell has an overall record of 35-44, including an even 24-24 mark in conference games.
