As a number of NCAC teams took the week off to focus on final exams, just a handful of non-conference games highlighted a light schedule in the conference. League squads will return to non-conference action after Christmas with numerous teams either hosting or traveling to holiday tournaments, while conference action picks back up on January 3rd and 4th.

ALLEGHENY split two non-conference contests in its last weekend of 2013 competition. Behind a career-high 29 points from sophomore Makenzie Zidek (Leechburg, PA/Kiski), including a program-record tying seven three-pointers, the Gators upended Saint Vincent, 89-85.  The following day, Allegheny was unable to complete a late comeback against Washington & Jefferson, falling to the Presidents, 90-80. The Gators will remain at the David V. Wise Center for their first action of 2014, taking on DePauw at 6 p.m. on January 3 followed by a 4 p.m. tilt against Wittenberg on January 4.

DENISON was idle last week and resumes play on December 28th and 29th in Westerville, Ohio at the Smokey Ballenger Classic hosted by Otterbein.

Top-ranked DEPAUW was idle last week and will stay local for its Holiday Tournament as the Tigers will host their annual Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament on December 29th and 30th.

HIRAM was idle last week and will return to action when the Terriers visit Marietta on Monday December 30th.

KENYON was idle last week and returns to action on New Year’s Eve for a 1:00 p.m. contest against Mt. Vernon Nazarene in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

OBERLIN was idle last week and will return to the hardwood Sunday, December 30th as the Yeowomen travel to Vermont to square off against Middlebury.

Sophomore guard Hanna Fedorka (North Canton, OH/Massillon Jackson) scored five points during a 12-2 first-half run that put OHIO WESLEYAN ahead to stay, and the Bishops held off a late Wilmington charge to record a, 75-65, non-conference win. Junior guard Sarah McQuade (Dublin, OH/Coffman) led the Bishops with 19 points and shared the team lead with five assists, while Fedorka finished with 16 points. Senior wing Julia Grimsley (Alliance, OH/Alliance) added 11 points and shared the team lead with five assists, and senior post Tamra Londot (Utica, OH/Utica) collected 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

WITTENBERG was idle last week but will return to action at its annual Charles B. Zimmerman Memorial Classic in Springfield on December 27th and 28th.

WOOSTER sophomore forward Lauren Hancher (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) went for a career-high 29 points against Schreiner, then again led the Scots in scoring with 14 against Texas Lutheran in a pair of non-conference losses in the San Antonio area.
