DePauw (30-2) saw its season come to a close on Saturday night (3/15) as the Tigers suffered an 88-71 loss against Wisconsin Whitewater in the sectional final round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament at Neal Fieldhouse in Greencastle, Indiana.
The DPU senior class of Ann Sarkisian (Valparaiso, IN/Valparaiso), Alex Gasaway (Crawfordsville, IN/Crawfordsville), Ali Ross (Lexington, KY/Lafayette), Alison Stephens (Praire Village, KS/Shawnee Mission East) and Erin McGinnis (Normal, IL/Normal Community West) finished their decorated careers with an overall record 116-8, including three NCAC regular season and tournament championships and the 2013 NCAA Div. III National Title.
In the Tigers’ win over Carthage in the sectional semifinals, Gasaway tallied 18 points, five rebounds and two blocked shots, while junior Savannah Trees (Libertyville, IL/Libertyville) scored 14 of her game-high 20 points in the second half to lift the Tigers to the 19-point victory.
Gasaway again shined in her final collegiate game against the Warhawks as she poured in a team-high 20 points, while Trees chipped in with 18 points and two assists.
Gasaway finishes her illustrious career at DPU with 1,248 points and 684 rebounds, which makes her the only player in program history to tally 1,200 points and 600 rebounds. Stephens also set the program’s single-season rebounding mark this season with 292 boards, while the team broke the program’s single-season record for three-pointers made with 223.
The Tigers now own an overall record of 29-13 in NCAA postseason games, with the 29 wins putting them in a tie for eighth in Div. III history.
