DPU Women Top 2015-16 Preseason Poll

2015-16 NCAC Preseason Basketball Coaches' Polls

The DePauw women's basketball team was tabbed to repeat as league champions in the 2015-16 North Coast Athletic Conference preseason basketball poll, based on balloting from league coaches.

DePauw, which is the four-time defending NCAC women’s champion, secured six of the possible nine first-place votes cast by league coaches for 74 total points, while Denison, a three-time NCAC champion, earned the final three first-place votes and finished second in the poll with 71 points. Wittenberg, the 2015 NCAC Tournament Champion, finished third in the poll with 58 points, followed by Allegheny in fourth (54), Ohio Wesleyan in fifth (44), Oberlin in sixth (38), Kenyon in seventh (32), Hiram in eighth (21) and Wooster in ninth (13).

The Tigers will be looking to fill the void that graduation brought upon them last year as they will return just one starter from the 2014-15 squad that rolled through the conference slate with a perfect 16-0 mark. Senior forward Abby Keller (Glenview, IL/Glenbrook South) {right} is that lone starter and she is again expected to be one of the league’s premier post players after pulling down 211 rebounds (7.3 rpg) for the Tigers last year. Junior forward Taylor Howard (Peoria, IL/Peoria Christian) is DPU’s top returning scorer from a year ago with 185 points (6.4 ppg), while senior guard Jenna Stoner (Bowling Green, OH/Bowling Green) will be vying for one of the back court positions after appearing in 26 games last season. Head coach Kris Huffman, who has guided the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last 12 seasons, returns to the sidelines this season with a career record of 522-107 in 22 years at the helm. Huffman’s .830 winning percentage ranks sixth among active coaches across all three divisions and is eighth all-time among head coaches with a minimum of 10 years experience.

The 2015-16 season begins on Friday, November 13. The NCAC Tournament will be held at the end of February with the men’s and women’s semifinals and championships at the site of the respective high seeds on February 26th and 27th.
