The 2019 D3hoops.com All-Great Lakes Region team was announced on Monday, Mar. 11, and the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) was represented by DePauw’s Maya Howard (St. Louis, Mo./MICDS), Sydney Kopp (Burr Ridge, Ill./Hinsdale South) and Kenyon’s Paige Matijasich (Pickerington, Ohio/Pickerington North).
Howard was named to the All-Region first team for the second time in as many years while previously garnering the Great Lake Region’s Rookie of the Year in 2016. Howard was named the NCAC Player of the Year in late February, the second time she has received that honor in her career after helping guide the Tigers to an NCAC Championship, NCAC Tournament Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Kopp is making her first appearance on the All-Region team, showing up on the second team. Kopp was instrumental in the Tigers’ 25-5 record and was an All-NCAC first-team honoree. She led the Tigers in scoring at 15.7 points per game, also ranking third in the conference.
Matijasich was selected to the All-Great Lakes third team, her first appearance on the all-region team in her career. She was also an All-NCAC first-team selection, distinguishing herself as only player in the NCAC to rank among the top five in both scoring (15.5) and rebounds (7.9) per game this season.
Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors (SID) at the various schools. There were more than 716 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region. Regions that have fewer than 40 Division III teams have two teams. The Northeast, which is nearly twice that size, has four teams, while all other regions have three teams.
