Denison (11-7), which earned the NCAC’s automatic bid to the 2015 NCAA Div. III Women’s Lacrosse Tournament, saw its season come to an end following a 10-5 second round loss to No. 17 Fredonia Sunday on May 10th in Fredonia, New York.

The Big Red got off to a strong start, scoring two of the first three goals of the contest. Reid Hirschey (Edina, MN/Edina) started things off with a nifty goal after a perfect pass from Carol Allen (Nashville, TN/Ensworth) from behind the goal.

With 12:14 to go, Claire Ludlow (Saugatuck, MI/East Grand Rapids) would find Hirschey with her second goal of the day and DU would trail the Blue Devils 6-4 at halftime.

In the second half the two teams would each attempt nine shots, but the Big Red went 0-for-4 on free position attempts and that would be the difference as Fredonia held DU to one goal over the final 30 minutes.

Nicole Burrows finished with 12 saves in goal while Denison’s goalie, Becca Jones (Wolfeboro, NH/Brewster Academy), turned in seven saves while playing all 60 minutes.

The two teams tied in the shot department with 22 apiece.  Fredonia won the ground ball game, 16-14 and both teams committed 15 turnovers.

This season marked the 19th North Coast Athletic Conference championship in school history and the 17th NCAA Tournament appearance for the Big Red.
