Denison (1-0, 4-4) opened up NCAC play by defeating Wittenberg (1-1, 7-2), 15-10, snapping the Tigers’ 31-game conference regular season winning streak. Wittenberg last loss in NCAC regular season play was against Allegheny (0-0, 4-5) back in 2011.
ALLEGHENY dropped a pair of non-conference games last week at Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace. The Gators held a 6-4 lead against the Yellow Jackets, but allowed seven of the next 10 goals to drop the contest, 11-9.
DENISON opened NCAC play with a 15-10 road win over Wittenberg. That marked Denison’s first regular season win over the Tigers since 2011. The Big Red were led in scoring by Claire Ludlow (Saugatuck, MI/East Grand Rapids) and Lizzy Pellicane (Short Hills, NJ/Morristown Beard) with a combined eight goals and three assists. Ludlow and Pellicane each tallied four goals.
DEPAUW snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 22-5 win at Hiram. Emma Flynn (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) leads the Tigers on the season with 19 goals and 21 points. Nicole Gibson (Cincinnati, OH/Indian Hill) leads with 10 assists.
HIRAM suffered a pair of losses last week. On Wednesday, junior Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, VT/Lamoille Union) scored a hat trick in a 14-8 loss to Division II Notre Dame. Osgood and sophomore Sierah Ray (Tallmadge, OH/Stow-Munroe Fall) each scored twice in a 22-5 NCAC loss to DePauw on Saturday.
KENYON played just one game last week and suffered a 12-8 setback at Wooster. Despite the loss, a highlight for Kenyon was the play of Jane Symmes (Concord, NH/Concord), who scored two goals, had one assist and a team-high eight groundballs. Symmes also earned four draw controls and broke the Kenyon record for career draw controls. She now has 242, surpassing the old Kenyon mark of 239 set by Ali Lacavaro ‘99.
OBERLIN increased its winning streak to three games, defeating Otterbein, 12-7, and Ohio Wesleyan, 15-5, last week. Eight different players scored a goal in the win against the Bishops with sophomore Natalue Rauchle (Edina, MN/Edina) leading the way with three scores to go along with two assists. Junior goalie Alexa L’Insalata (Plainsboro Township, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro North) also registered her third double-digit save performance of the season with 11 stops.
OHIO WESLEYAN dropped its lone contest last week to Oberlin, 15-5, on Saturday. Senior attacker Patricia Ryan (Upper Arlington, OH/Columbus School for Girls) led the Bishops with a goal and two assists. Freshman Kelly Coffyn (Bainbridge Island, WA/Bainbridge) went the distance in the Ohio Wesleyan goal, making 10 saves.
WITTENBERG dropped its first regular season NCAC contest since 2011 last week after the Tigers fell to Denison, 15-10. Senior attacker Olivia Lash (Cleveland Heights, OH/Cleveland Heights) scored five goals in the loss.
After seeing its season-opening seven-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of Augustana (Ill.) by an 18-8 count Thursday night, WOOSTER bounced back with a 12-8 NCAC win over Kenyon on Saturday afternoon. Heather Szymanski (Shoreham, NY/Shoreham Wading River) continued her strong play of late, notching a hat trick for the fourth time in a five-game span with four goals in the win over the Ladies.
