Denison (2-1), DePauw (2-1) and Wabash (2-1) are the three NCAC squads over .500 after another week of non-conference play. Going into the final week of non-conference action before league play begins on March 18th, eight of the nine league teams will be in action with a number teams on spring break trips.
ALLEGHENY opened its season with a pair of games. In their opener, the Gators bested Thiel, 13-2. Shelby Piper (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) led the Gators with two goals and three assists. In their NCAC opener, the Gators fell to Denison 15-6. Piper and Lexi Einsig (Reading, PA/Exter Township) led the Gators with two goals apiece.
DENISON scored six of the game’s first seven goals en route to its first NCAC victory over Allegheny. Freshman Kiely Noonan (Wellesley, MA/Governor’s Academy) led all scorers with five goals on five attempts to go along with one assist. Claire Ludlow (East Grand Rapids, MI/East Grand Rapids) led the team with seven points as the senior had four goals and three assist on the day.
DEPAUW will open the 2017 season on Tuesday, March 7th, at home against Ill. Wesleyan at 7:00 p.m.
HIRAM went 0-1 in its opening week of play. The Terriers fell to Muskingum by a final score of 13-5. Senior Autumn Osgood (Hyde Park, VT/Lamoille Union) scored a team-high three goals in the loss.
KENYON will open the 2017 season on Monday, March 6th on its spring break trip in Florida versus Haverford.
OBERLIN opened its season by earning a pair of commanding wins as the Yeowomen defeated Heidelberg, 17-2, before returning home to down Kalamazoo, 22-2. A total of 13 players have scored at least one goal through the first two games, with junior Natalie Rauchle (Edina, MN/Edina) leading the way with nine.
OHIO WESLEYAN split a pair of non-conference contests last week to open the 2017 season. The Bishops fell to John Carroll on Wednesday, before bouncing back to defeat Wash. & Jeff., 12-8, on Saturday. In the win, freshman attacker Mickey Rice (Louisville, KY/Kentucky Country Day School) led the Bishops with four goals and an assist, while Nicole Sanczyk (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) finished with two goals and two assists.
WITTENBERG imporved to 2-0 on the season after defating John Carroll, 16-15, on Saturday in a non-conference thriller. Tied at 15 with 1:24 remaining, sophomore Breanna Donnelly (Pickerington, OH/North) found the back of the net for the game-winning goal. Sophomore Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, OH/Wyoming) led the way for the Tigers in the win with five total points on four goals and one assist.
WOOSTER opened its season with a pair of wins last week. In the Walsh contest, Wooster used a 6-0 first half run to take the lead, and then closed out the Cavaliers with a 4-0 run after the game was tied at 12. The Scots started the Ohio Northern contest with a 7-0 run. Freshman Jenny Grossman (Dayton, OH/Miami Valley School) Scored a team-high six goals on the week. She netted a game-high four goals against Ohio Northern, one game after a two-goal, two-assist collegiate debut. Grossman also scooped up five ground balls against the Polar Bears and had three draw controls against the Cavaliers.
