Denison (1-0) and Kenyon (1-1) earned victories as the 2018 season kicked off last week. The Big Red defeated Fredonia and the Ladies defeated Otterbein. Non-conference action continues this week as Oberlin, Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster will all open up their seasons.
ALLEGHENY will open the 2018 season on Wednesday, March 7th, at home against Washington & Jefferson.
DENISON ranked 25th in the most recent IWLCA poll, opened the season strong with a 20-3 win over Fredonia on Sunday. Denison held the Blue Devils scoreless in the second half. Kiely Noonan (Wellesley, MA/Wellesley) scored five goals and two assists, while Claudia Rafi (Mason, OH/Ursuline Academy) led the way with six goals.
DEPAUW is 0-2 on the season after a home loss to Division II Rockhurst on Feb. 16 and a defeat at Centre on Feb. 25. Three players have scored two goals each this season.
HIRAM opened the season with a 16-9 loss at the hands of Ohio Northern. Senior Sierah Ray (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored seven of the Terriers’ nine goals, including three in free-position opportunities. Other goal scorers included senior Alyse Gillentine (Hartville, OH/Lake) and sophomore Katelyn Slomovitz (Kent, OH/Roosevelt). Senior keeper Rachel Metcalf (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) tallied a career-high 15 saves.
KENYON'S 19-6 win at Otterbein marked the most goals scored in a season opener in the NCAC era. In the process, Jess Fugate became just the second coach in the NCAC era to win in her Kenyon debut. The Ladies then fell at John Carroll over the weekend.
OBERLIN will open the 2018 season on Wednesday, February 28th, at home against Baldwin Wallace.
OHIO WESLEYAN will open the 2018 season Wednesday, February 28th at John Carroll.
WITTENBERG dropped it opening game of the 2018 season, falling to Ill. Wesleyan, 15-10. Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, OH/Wyoming) led the Tigers with four goals in the loss.
WOOSTER will open the 2018 season on Thursday, March 1st at home against Ohio Northern.
