Heading into the final week of the regular season, Denison (12-2, 6-0) holds a one game lead over Oberlin (9-4, 5-1), but the seeding for the NCAC Tournament remains completely up for grabs. North Coast action continues this week with four games on Wednesday and the league schedule concludes with four more games on Saturday.
ALLEGHENY went 2-0 last week in conference play. In a 15-8 win over Kenyon, Shelby Piper (Littleton, CO/Chatfield) led the Gators with seven points, while Maddie Olson (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) had six. In an 18-5 senior day win over Wittenberg, Piper had six points, while Steph Shakespeare (Pittsburgh, PA/Peters Township) made 11 saves.
DENISON improved to 12-2 and 6-0 in the NCAC after wins over John Carrol, 14-8, and Hiram, 26-2. The Big Red set a new program record for points (45) against Hiram.
DEPAUW came back from a three-goal deficit to tie Wittenberg before losing 15-13. Sarah Ramsey (Westerville, OH/Olentangy Orange) leads the Tigers with 26 goals and 28 points, while Kate Flynn (Indianapolis, IN/Cathedral) leads with 16 assists.
HIRAM took on Wooster on the road dropping a 20-2 decision on Tuesday night. Offensively, senior Alyse Gillentine (Hartville, OH/Lake) led the Hiram group with a pair of goals. Hiram played host to Denison University on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Big Red 26-2. Senior Sierah Ray’s (Stow, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) two goals and four shots led the offense for Hiram, while Katelyn Slomovitz (Kent, OH/Roosevelt) and Tia Smith (Kent, OH/Theodore Roosevelt) paced the defense with a pair of caused turnovers, each.
KENYON moved its record to 10-5 after falling at Allegheny and defeating Oberlin last week. The Ladies, still in contention for an NCAC Tournament spot, will close out their regular season on April 28 with a home game versus DePauw.
OBERLIN opened its week with a 16-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan, but stumbled in its Senior Day match-up against Kenyon, falling 16-14 to the Ladies. Playing in their final regular-season home games, the senior duo of Natalie Rauchle (Edina, MN/ Edina) and Sydney Garvis (Lexington, VA/ Rockbridge County) combined for 19 goals, six assists, and 29 draw controls over the two games.
OHIO WESLEYAN split a pair of contests last week, falling to Oberlin on Tuesday but bounced back to earn a 13-10 non-conference decision against Franciscan. Sophomore midfielder Sloane Baumgartner (Naperville, IL/St. Francis) led the Bishops with five goals and three assists in the victory.
WITTENBERG opened the week with a 15-13 victory against DePauw but feel to Allegheny on Saturday, 18-5. Emily Wadds (Cincinnati, OH/Wyoming) scored five goals and added 17 draw controls in the win against DePauw.
WOOSTER went 3-0 last week, and outscored the opposition 57-21. Senior Helena Enders (Lake Oswego, OR/St. Mary’s Academy) led the way offensively with six goals and four assists, and she’s two goals shy of 100 for her career. Junior Megan Healy (Ottawa Hills, OH/Ottawa Hills) averaged 7.3 draw controls, 5 groundballs, and 4.3 caused turnovers per game last week.
