Ohio Wesleyan junior Ashley Smiley (Delaware, OH/Hayes) and Wooster senior Mackenzie Goltz (Muskegon, MI/Reeths Puffer) were voted to the College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District Team, as announced by the organization on Thursday, Nov. 7. Both individuals now move on to the ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
Goltz is a biology major who owns a 3.95 GPA and is a three-year starter for the Fighting Scots. She’s part of a defense that has allowed a league-low 10 goals in 18 matches this season. Wooster hasn’t allowed a goal in its last seven matches, dating back to Oct. 12 against Ohio Wesleyan (W, 2-1). The Fighting Scots are currently in postseason play, going for the conference tournament title this Saturday at DePauw.
Smiley is a zoology major who has a 3.92 GPA and is a three-year starter for the Battling Bishops. The forward currently leads the NCAC with 13 goals, five more than the next closest athlete. She also leads the conference in points (31) and shots (81).
The Academic All-District® teams are selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America, with District VII consisting of schools in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. To be considered for the teams, one must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or better and be a starter or important reserve.
