2016 NCAC Women's Tennis Players of the Week

April 25th

Adrienne D’Alewyn, Ohio Wesleyan 
(Nassau, The Bahamas/American Heritage Acad., FL) 

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Adrienne D’Alewyn combined for a personal record of 3-1 on the week as the Bishops knocked off Wooster, 9-0, on Friday, before falling to John Carroll, 6-3, on Saturday. In the win over Wooster, D’Alewyn was a double winner, joining with freshman Lauren Corcoran (Tampa, FL/Plant) for an 8-4 victory in the top doubles flight, before earning a 6-0, 6-0 win over Morgan Wagers in the second singles flight. She also picked up a 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6) win over JCU’s Madisyn Rini in the second singles flight.

April 18th

Meg Chiumento, Denison
(Malvern, PA/Agnes Irwin School)  

Denison senior Meg Chiumento combined for a perfect 4-0 record on the week, which included securing the match-clinching point in a 5-4 victory over No. 22 DePauw with a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) triumph over Alyssa Seneviratne in the second singles flight. She also scored a 6-3, 6-2 top flight singles win over Carli Milano in DU’s 9-0 victory over Wittenberg on Tuesday. In addition, Chiumento added two doubles victories on the week in the top flight with freshman teammate Lauren Hawley (Dayton, OH/Archbishop Alter).

April 11th

Jackie McDermott, Oberlin
(Wheeling, WV/Linsly School)  

Oberlin sophomore Jackie McDermott combined for a 5-1 record on the week to lead the Yeowomen in an 8-1 NCAC East win over Wooster and a 7-2 victory over NCAA Division II Walsh. She posted back-to-back singles wins in the sixth position against Wooster’s Aditi Sringeri 6-1, 6-0 and Walsh’s Snezhana Kiseleva 6-2, 6-0, before moving up to the fifth spot and posting a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) win over Melissa Djohan in a 6-1 team loss against Div. I Cleveland State. She also logged a pair of wins in the second doubles position against Wooster, 8-4, and Walsh, 8-1, with sophomore partner Mayada Audeh (Washington, DC/Georgetown Day).

April 4th

Diana Aboubakare, Kenyon
(Orange, CA/Luther)  

Kenyon sophomore Diana Aboubakare led the Ladies to a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, after posting a 3-1 record in the top singles flight and a 2-1 mark in the third doubles position with junior teammate Jenna Murray (Darien, CT/Darien). Her singles record included a 7-5, 4-6, 11-9 win over Chicago’s Ariana Iranpour, the 4th-ranked player in the nation, and a 1-6, 7-5, 10-4 come-from-behind victory over Hope’s Nancy Benda, the 33rd-ranked player in the nation. The un-ranked Ladies opened the two-day event with back-to-back wins over No. 16. DePauw, 6-3, and No. 27 Hope, 5-4, before closing out the trip with a pair of 5-2 losses against No. 15 Chicago and No. 9 Washington (MO).

March 28th

Lauren Hawley, Denison
(Dayton, OH/Archbishop Alter)  

Denison freshman Lauren Hawley combined for a perfect 4-0 record on the week as the Big Red went 1-1 overall with an 8-1 NCAC West win over Ohio Wesleyan and a 6-3 loss against No. 21 Case. After winning both of her matches in the top flight against OWU, Hawley defeated the Central Region’s fourth-ranked player from Case, Nithya Kanagasegar 6-3, 7-5. She also joined with senior Meg Chiumento (Malvern, PA/Agnes Irwin School) for a 9-8 (7-3) win in the top doubles flight against the Spartans.

March 21st

Rachel Mole, Wooster
(Jamestown, NY/Frewsburg Central)  

Wooster junior Rachel Mole posted a perfect 5-0 record at No. 1 singles and a 2-3 mark in the top doubles position on the Scots’ first week of spring break action in Orlando, Florida. With Wooster trailing Macalester, 4-3, Mole picked up a 4-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) come-from-behind singles win over Della Brown to even the score at 4-4 and keep the Scots alive for the 5-4 team victory. Mole also paired with classmate Elizabeth Brewington (Greensboro, NC/Walter Hines Page) for a 2-3 record in the top doubles flight, earning wins against Macalester, 8-4, and Goucher, 8-3.  

March 14th

Lauren Corcoran, Ohio Wesleyan
(Tampa, FL/Plant) 

Ohio Wesleyan freshman Lauren Corcoran posted 3-1 records in both singles and doubles play to lead the Bishops to a 2-2 record on their spring break trip in Florida. She opened the trip by splitting a pair of singles victories in the second flight, before moving to the top flight and picking up back-to-back victories over PSU-Berks’ Kianna Anderson 6-0, 6-0 and St. Mary’s (IN) Andrea Fetters 6-0, 6-2. In the four matches combined, Corcoran won five singles sets by perfect 6-0 scores.

March 7th

Meg Chiumento, Denison
(Malvern, PA/Agnes Irwin School)  

Denison senior Meg Chiumento combined for two points to help lift the 23rd-ranked Big Red to a 7-2 over No. 39 Kalamazoo last Saturday in Granville. She breezed by Sabrina Dass 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while also joining with freshman Lauren Hawley (Dayton, OH/Archbishop Alter) for an 8-3 victory in the top doubles flight.

February 29th

Grace Winslow, Kenyon
(Sunrise, FL/South Plantation)   

Kenyon sophomore Grace Winslow played a key role in leading the Ladies to a 9-0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday. She picked up an 8-0 victory in the second doubles flight with freshman Maggie Sweeney (Grosse Pointe, MI/South), before topping Leigh Hales in the fifth singles position by a 6-0, 6-1 margin.

February 22nd

Megan Galle, DePauw
(Columbus, IN/East)  

DePauw freshman Megan Galle kicked off her collegiate career in dual matches with a combined record of 5-1 between singles and doubles competition last week. In singles, she was 2-1 in the sixth flight, which included a pair of straight-set 6-0, 6-0 victories over Centre’s Casey Blair and Wooster’s Aditi Sringeri. In doubles, Galle and classmate Colleen Morris (Lake Forest, IL/Lake Forest) lost just five games all weekend en route to posting a perfect 3-0 record in the third flight. Galle and Morris accounted for DPU’s lone point in an 8-1 loss against No. 13 Washington (MO) on Sunday.

February 15th

Mayada Audeh, Oberlin
(Washington, D.C./Georgetown)  

Oberlin sophomore Mayada Audeh helped lead the 39th-ranked Yeowomen to a pair of 9-0 victories last week over Baldwin Wallace and Otterbein. Audeh and senior Erin Johnson (Kohler, WI/Sheboygan) were perfect in the second doubles flight with two 8-0 victories, while she also scored top flight singles victories over BW’s Kelsey Blatt 6-0, 6-2, and Otterbein’s Rylie Markle 6-2, 6-1. Audeh is currently riding a four-match winning streak in both singles and doubles competition.

February 8th

Lauren Hawley, Denison
(Dayton, OH/Archbishop Alter)  

Denison freshman Lauren Hawley had a hand in two of the Big Red’s points in a 7-2 victory at No. 27 Hope last Saturday. After teaming with sophomore partner Courtney Brown (Dublin, OH/Bishop Watterson) for an 8-3 win in the second doubles flight, Hawley went on to defeat Nancy Benda in the top singles flight. Hawley dropped the first set against the nation’s 33rd-ranked singles player by a 6-3 margin, before bouncing back and posting set score victories of 6-3 and 7-5.
