The 2014 NCAC Women’s Tennis Championships came to a close on Sunday afternoon at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, with top-seeded DePauw (3-0, 18-4) capturing its third-straight league title with a 6-0 victory over second-seeded Denison (2-1, 11-9). With the victory, the Tigers have earned the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Div. III Women's Tennis Tournament.
The DPU Tigers opened play in the tournament with a 5-0 victory over Wittenberg (0-3, 6-11) on Friday and secured their spot in the championship match with another 5-0 win over Kenyon (2-1, 9-12) in the semifinal round. Denison mapped its route through the tournament bracket with a 5-0 win over Ohio Wesleyan (1-2, 7-15) in the quarterfinals and a 5-2 win triumph over Oberlin (3-0, 13-9) in the semifinals.
Sunday’s action also saw Oberlin knock off Kenyon, 5-0, in the third-place match, while Allegheny and Wooster shared fifth-place in the final conference standings after defeating Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan, respectively, in consolation matches on Saturday. OWU and Wittenberg will share seventh-place in the final men’s tennis standings.
