2018 NCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

October 29th
 

Payton McElfresh, Denison
(Bethel, Ohio/Miami Valley Christian Academy)

Denison’s Payton McElfresh helped boost the Big Red to two sweep’s last week against Wooster and Capital. McElfresh averaged 3.5 kills/set, 3.83 digs/set and 4.4 points/set to go along with four service aces. She recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs against Capital. Denison also secured the No. 6 seed in the NCAC tournament with the win against Wooster. 

October 22nd
 

Aubrey Cox, Wittenberg
(Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe)

Junior middle blocker Aubrey Cox helped lead the third-ranked Wittenberg women's volleyball team to at least a share of its 13th-straight and league leading 24th NCAC championship last week with a pair of 3-0 wins over DePauw and Wooster. In the highly anticipated match against the Indiana Tigers, Cox posted a rare double-double with 10 kills and 12 total blocks (2 solo, 10 asst.). Cox's 12 total blocks against DePauw tied for the fifth-most in school history overall in a three-set match and it is the most in school history in a single match (regardless of sets) since the shift to the 25-point rally scoring format in 2008. She then added nine kills and three more solo blocks in Saturday's straight-set win over Wooster that helped the Tigers clinch at least a share of the league championship. On the week, Cox accumulated 15 total blocks (5 solo, 10 asst.) and claimed 19 kills with just three hitting errors in 38 total attempts for a .421 hitting percentage. 

October 15th
 

Kennedey Schmidt, Wittenberg
(Englewood, Ohio/Northmont)

Senior middle hitter Kennedey Schmidt had a dynamic week at the net to lead No. 4 Wittenberg to a pair of NCAC road wins at Denison, 3-1, and Ohio Wesleyan, 3-0. In Tuesday’s win at Denison, Schmidt posted a career-high 18 kills and committed no hitting errors in 24 total attempts for a .750 hitting percentage. She than added seven more kills in Saturday’s straight-set win at OWU. In the two matches combined, Schmidt tallied 25 kills and committed just four hitting errors in 38 total attempts for a .553 hitting percentage. She also added five total blocks (2 solo, 3 asst.) on the week, highlighted by a pair of solo blocks in the win over Denison. 

October 8th  

Aubrey Cox, Wittenberg
(Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe)

In two straight-set conference wins last week against Hiram and Allegheny, junior middle blocker Aubrey Cox put up eye-popping numbers on the offensive side of the net, as she accumulated 10 kills and committed zero hitting errors in 16 total attempts for a .625 hitting percentage. She also chipped in with four block assists in the win over Allegheny that lifted the fifth-ranked Tigers to a a 3-0 mark in league play and a 14-2 record overall. 

October 1st
 

Molly Jewett, Ohio Wesleyan
(Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley)

Ohio Wesleyan sophomore Molly Jewett dished out 41 assists across three sets in the Bishops’ 3-1 win over Mount St. Joseph last Thursday. She also contributed nine digs and a block assist in the contest. Jewett followed Thursday’s performance with 33 assists as the Bishops swept Oberlin, 3-0, in NCAC action on Saturday. She also contributed two block assists, two kills, and eight digs.

September 24th
 

Liv Hartman, DePauw
(Danville, Ind./Danville)

DePauw’s Liv Hartman helped the DePauw Tigers to a 2-0 mark on the week with victories against Rose-Hulman and Denison. Hartman produced 35 kills across seven sets, including 24 against the Big Red on Saturday. She averaged five kills per set, one dig per set and a .351 hitting percentage.

September 17th
 

Morgan Stearley, DePauw
(Center Point, Ind./Northview)

DePauw’s Morgan Stearley was named to the DePauw Tigers Invitational all-tournament team as the Tigers went 3-1 including a five-set win over No. 11-ranked Illinois Wesleyan on Friday. Stearley collected 63 kills (3.94 k/s), 58 digs (3.63 d/s) and eight blocks (0.5 b/s) across 16 sets for the Tigers.

September 10th

Holly Hoffman, Hiram
(Streetsboro, Ohio/Crestwood)

Hiram senior Holly Hoffman helped the Terriers to their best start in program history with four wins last week. The Terriers have now won 21-straight sets to open the season. Hoffman averaged a double-double, totaling 31.25 assists and 10 digs per match. Additionally, Hoffman totaled 17 points from her setter position, notching nine kills and leading the team with eight aces. She was named to the Case Western Reserve Invitational All-Tournament team as Hiram improved to its first 7-0 start in program history.

September 4th

Delaney Swanson, Kenyon
(Sonoma, Calif./Sonoma Valley)

Kenyon senior Delaney Swanson led the Ladies in kills and digs over the weekend at Marietta's River City Classic. She collected 57.5 points (4.8 pts/s), 46 kills (3.83 k/s) and 36 digs (3.0 d/s) across four victories, three of which were by 3-0 counts. The 4-0 start by the Ladies is its first since 1988.
