The 2018 NCAC Cross Country season came to a close on Saturday (11/17) at the NCAA Division III Cross Country National Championships, held at the Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne, Wis.
Allegheny's Emily Forner (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) was the top NCAC runner to log an All-American performance at the national meet by finishing in the top-40 in the individual standings, traversing the women's 6k course in 21:16.7 to finish ninth overall. Gator teammate Sarah Hevener (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Bradley) joined Forner on the All-American podium by finishing 39th with a time of 22:00.4.
In the team competition, Allegheny finished 13th overall with 388 points, while Oberlin placed 29th with 593 points. The Gators' top-15 team finish was accomplished thanks in part to the performances from Forner, Hevener and Mica Hanish (Baden, Pa./Ambridge) who finished 50th in 22:09.3. A pair of Yeowomen paced Oberlin, as Linnea Halsten (Madison, Wis./East) recorded a 49th-place finish in 22:08.5 and Marija Crook (Carrboro, N.C./Chapel Hill) finished 136th in 22:50.1.
In the men's 8K race, DePauw finished 20th overall with 508 points. The Tigers were led by Paul Christian (Glen Ellyn, Ill./Glenbard West) who finished 45th in a time of 25:03.4 with teammate Zach Batt (Stafford, Va./North Stafford) placing 13 spots behind Christian in 58th (25:18.1) and Cole Martin (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) finishing 116th in a time of 25:42.4.
In addition, Allegheny's Matt Svetz (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and a pair of Wooster runners, David Westcott (Millbrook, N.Y./Millbrook) and Brian Lief (Shaker Hts., Ohio/Shaker Hts.), competed as individuals with Svetz finishing 80th (25:28.7), Westcott in 132nd (25:47.0) and Lief in 276th (28:18.9).
