This fall the conference brought representatives from across campus together at Ohio Wesleyan to go through the Step Up Bystander intervention train-the-trainer workshop led by our own Gary Williams of Wittenberg. What is step up? Step Up is a prosocial behavior and bystander intervention program that educates students to be proactive in helping others. It received a NASPA Gold award and recently was identified as a Best Practice by the NCAA Sports Science Institute of national and international scholars. The workshop had over 60 representatives from athletics, safety/security, healthy services, title nine offices, residence life, FARs and student affairs as well as student leaders from across the league attended. The group went through the training as if they were students at one of our institutions. After a lunch break, the group then went over effective methods for facilitating training and gave them tools to succeed with their own campus group.
