WITTENBERG CLOSES OUT SEASON IN NCAA SEMIFINALS

Top-seeded Wittenberg’s undefeated season came to a disappointing end with a four-game loss to Washington (Mo.) in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III tournament. For the third consecutive year, the Tigers fell in the national semifinals, ending an otherwise perfect season. Wittenberg (38-1) had not only won all 38 matches entering the Division III semis, but also had only dropped six games the entire season. The 25-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-15 loss to Washington included the only game losses the Tigers had suffered in the 2007 postseason, conference and NCAA play included.

Washington went on to win the national title in five games over Wisconsin-Whitewater. It was the second year the Tigers fell to the eventual national champions.

Senior Emily Bell (Fort Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) was named the NCAA All-Tournament team. She smashed 20 kills in the team’s final match.
