November 4, 2007 Williams, a 6-1 outside hitter, ranked third in the conference during the regular season with a .408 hitting percentage (255 kills, 49 errors, 505 attempts), and was fifth in kills per game (3.36). She led the Tigers to their 13th North Coast championship, their 13th NCAC tournament title, and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 11th straight year. Wittenberg is the top ranked team in NCAA Division III and the only unbeaten squad in the entire NCAA with a 34-0 record after the conference tournament. Wooster junior Ali Drushal (Lakeville, OH/West Holmes) repeated as the NCAC's Libero of the Year. Drushal led the conference during the regular season with 8.10 digs per game. Drushal moves up to the first team after earning second-team recognition last year, and is the second player to earn Libero of the Year honors two consecutive seasons. Joining Williams and Drushal on the first team are Tiger senior Emily Bell (Ft. Wayne, IN/Concordia Lutheran) and Hiram senior Megan Taylor (Cortland, OH/Lakeview), both of whom repeat as first-team selections. Bell and Taylor each make their third consecutive appearance on the first team. Taylor also earned honorable mention recognition in 2004. Wittenberg senior Jan Kehres (Alliance, OH/Alliance) and Earlham senior Lisa Vanderkolk (Bluffton, IN/Bluffton) each make their first appearance on the first team. Kehres was an honorable mention choice in 2005, while Vanderkolk was a second team choice in 2006 and honorable mention in 2003. She is just the second Quaker to earn NCAC first-team honors in school history, and the first since 1991. Hiram freshman outside hitter Kim Sage (Bellevue, OH/Bellevue) was voted the NCAC's Newcomer of the Year. She finished her first regular season with the Terriers second on the team in kills (295), kills per game (2.95) and was third in digs per game (2.48) and points per game (3.20). Wittenberg head coach Paco Labrador was named NCAC Coach of the Year for the second time in two years. He guided the Tigers to their first-ever undefeated regular season. His squad posted an even more impressive 102-6 record in games played. Labrador is 164-23 thus far in his five years at the helm. |
