CLEVELAND --
Wooster senior KateLynn Riley (Westlake, OH/Westlake) has been named Player of the Year to highlight the 2009 All-North Coast Athletic Conference volleyball selections.

Riley, a 5-7 middle hitter/outside hitter, led the North Coast in kills per set (4.25), blocks (1.06 per set) and points (5.18). She led the Fighting Scots to a third-place finish in the conference with a 12-4 league mark, 21-9 overall. She earns first-team recognition for the second straight season.

Denison senior Holly Leonard (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) was selected as Libero of the Year for the first time. She earned her second consecutive second-team nod and led the league in digs with 5.93 per set. Ohio Wesleyan freshman Meg Weissenberger (Toledo, OH/Central Catholic) was voted Newcomer of the Year and was an honorable mention choice. The only freshman voted to the All-NCAC squad, Weissenberger finished fifth in the conference with 3.01 kills per set and fourth in points (3.49 per set).

Joining Riley as repeat first-team selections are Hiram senior Randa Jackson (South Euclid, OH/Brush) and Wittenberg senior Erin Slattery (Chagrin Falls, OH/Kenston). Slattery was the NCAC Newcomer of the Year in 2006 and both she and Jackson were first-team choices in 2008. Allegheny senior Caitlin Solan (Acme, PA/Geibel) moved up to the first team after earning second-team accolades last season, and Wittenberg senior Kate Snead (Westerville, OH/South) is on the top squad after being voted honorable mention a season ago. Wittenberg sophomore Kate Sumner (Dublin, OH/Watterson) makes her debut on the All-NCAC squad as a member of the first team.

Hiram head coach Ellen Dempsey was voted NCAC Coach of the Year for the fourth time. She guided the Terriers to a second-place finish with a 14-2 conference mark and a 22-9 overall record. Dempsey, who earned coach of the year honors in 2001, 2003 and 2005, has a career record of 216-94 in nine years as Hiram’s mentor and is 348-233 overall in her 17-year career.
