Second-seeded Wittenberg successfully defended its North Coast Tournament championship with a 30-27, 24-30, 31-25, 30-27 decision over Hiram in the championship match. The Tigers claimed their 11th tournament title by sweeping past Denison and the Terriers dropping only a single set. Top-seeded Hiram advanced to the final after sweeping fourth-seeded Wooster in straight sets in their semifinal matchup. Tournament most valuable player, senior Emily Dixon (Granville, OH/Granville) was a key component of the Tiger defense, sharing the team lead in the final with six blocks, and registering a season-high eight blocks in the semifinals. Joining her on the all-tournament team were two teammates, senior Linda Young (Minster, OH/Minster) and freshman Jackie Williams (Rocky River, OH/Magnificat). The Terriers placed two on the all-tournament team: sophomore Katie Moore (Lakewood, OH/St.Joseph Academy) and senior Shana Toth (Mantua, OH/Crestwood). Denison senior Ellen Price (Maple City, MI/Leland) and Wooster sophomore Carolyn Ciriegio (Covington, OHCovington) rounded out the squad. |
