_________________________________________________________________________ February 24, 2008 Earlham junior Tasha Merrill (Cedar Grove, IN/Franklin County) combined for 27 points as the Quakers went 1-1 last week. She led the way with 20 points, 14 of which came in the second half, in a 64-55 victory over Wooster that helped lift Earlham into a three-way tie for seventh in the NCAC standings along with Hiram and Wooster. She added four rebounds, an assist and two blocks and was an almost perfect 8-for-9 (.889) from the free throw line. Merrill also contributed seven points in a 97-41 loss to Denison. _________________________________________________________________________ February 16, 2008 Ohio Wesleyan senior post Kelli Lester (Pataskala, OH/Watkins Memorial) scored the tying basket with 49 seconds left in regulation and then sank the game-winning free throw to put the Battling Bishops ahead of Wittenberg, 63-62, with 20 seconds left. The score stood, giving OWU a sweep of the regular-season series over Wittenberg for the first time since the 1999-2000 season. Lester finished with 16 points, going 4-for-5 from long range and leading the Bishops with seven rebounds. Lester then scored nine points in a 69-57 win over Allegheny, including a three-pointer that capped a 13-1 OWU run that put the Bishops ahead to stay. _________________________________________________________________________ February 10, 2008 Sophomore guard Carrie Dyer (Copley, OH/Copley) helped Wittenberg to a 2-1 week. She posted 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists in a 73-60 loss to Kenyon and then dropped in 22 points, a career-best by eight points, and five rebounds and two steals in a 76-75 win over Allegheny. Dyer closed out her week with 18 points, eight boards and five assists in an 86-63 win over Hiram. She finished the week with 53 points, 20 boards, eight assists and two steals in the three games. _________________________________________________________________________ February 3, 2008 Allegheny sophomore Brittany Bell (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield), a 5-6 guard, lifted the Gators to a 65-48 win over Wooster to snap a four-game losing skid. She scored a game- and career-high 20 points, hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field, including 6-of-8 (.750) from three-point range. Her six treys mark the third highest single-game total in school history. She also chipped in a rebound, an assist and a steal. _________________________________________________________________________ January 27, 2008 Wooster junior Meredith Wilson (Washington Court House, OH/Miami Trace), a 5-9 guard, scored the final five points in regulation, including a three-point shot from the left wing as the buzzer sounded to send a game with Earlham into overtime. She then buried the game-winning shot in the extra session, converting a three-pointer with 1.7 seconds remaining to hand the Fighting Scots a 57-54 victory. Wilson finished with 19 points, all in the second half and overtime. For the week she hit 5-of-12 three-point shots (.417). _________________________________________________________________________ January 20, 2008 Oberlin's Katie Thompson (Mt. Pleasant, MI/Mt. Pleasant), a 5-6, freshman guard, came off the bench to score a career-high 20 points and help lift Oberlin to its first NCAC win of the season - a 71-68 come-from-behind victory over Allegheny. Thompson was perfect in the game, finishing 6-of-6 from the floor, including three three-pointers. She was also 5-for-5 from the free throw line in her 26 minutes of action. She then chipped in seven points in the Yeowomen's 82-55 loss to Denison, making 5-of-6 free throws. She averaged 13.5 points per game on the week and shot 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the floor, 75 percent (3-of-4) from long range and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the charity stripe. _________________________________________________________________________ January 13, 2008 Denison's Ellen O'Brien, a 5-5, junior point guard, averaged 12.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, four assists and two steals in the Big Red's 2-0 week. Denison defeated Ohio Wesleyan (68-63) and Hiram (77-53), wresting third place from the Battling Bishops' grasp. __________________________________________________________________________ January 6, 2008 Kenyon's Alisha Moreno (Mesa, AZ/Dobson), a 5-6, junior guard, led the Ladies to a pair of NCAC road wins last week with 24 points on 6-for-11 (.545) shooting from three-point range. Moreno also totaled eight assists and four steals in the two games. In a 76-43 defeat of Oberlin, she made five of nine attempts (.556) from long range and led the Ladies to a school-record 16 successful three-pointers made. Kenyon also handed Ohio Wesleyan its first conference loss of the season, 55-48, last week. __________________________________________________________________________ December 30, 2007 Ohio Wesleyan's Steffi Graf (Poland, OH/Seminary), a 5-8, senior wing, earned tournament MVP honors as the Battling Bishops won twice in the South Padre Island Shootout. In a 74-67 defeat of Adrian, she scored 11 points and added four rebounds and four assists. In a 59-38 defeat of Ripon, Graf added four points and led the team with five assists and four steals. The 38 points allowed were the fewest allowed by a Battling Bishop squad since January 2003. __________________________________________________________________________ December 10, 2007 Wittenberg's Victoria Leali (Jackson, OH/Jackson), a 5-5, sophomore guard, scored a career-high 19 points to lead the Tigers to an 81-73 win over preseason favorite Denison in the NCAC opener for both teams. Leali added two rebounds, two assists and a steal in her 31 minutes of action. She was a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point territory, and made her only free throw attempt. She was 7-of-12 (.583) from the field. __________________________________________________________________________ December 3, 2007 Hiram's Ashley Drum (Parma, OH/Valley Forge), a 6-0, sophomore forward, helped the Terriers snap a three-game losing streak with a career-high 24 points in a 73-63 win over Ursuline. For the week, she totalled 30 points, nine rebounds and was 12-of-18 (.667) from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. The Terriers had opened their week with a 63-54 loss to Thiel. __________________________________________________________________________ November 26, 2007 Denison's Carolyn Simpson (Dublin, OH/Scioto), a 6-0, junior center, was named the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot Tournament MVP after she averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds, leading the Big Red to the tournament title. In the championship game against Thiel, which Denison won 76-58, Simpson scored 21 points and pulled down eight rebounds. She also led the Big Red to an 80-56 win over New Jersey City in the first round. __________________________________________________________________________ November 19, 2007 Kenyon's Alisha Moreno (Mesa, AZ/Dobson), a 5-6, senior guard, was named the Brandeis Tip-Off Tournament MVP after she totaled 27 points, six rebounds, eight assists, and three steals in a pair of wins over Wesleyan (64-54) and nationally ranked Brandeis (67-62). Moreno connected on 8 of 13 three pointers for a .615 shooting percentage from long range and was 9-of-16 (.563) from the floor. __________________________________________________________________________
