__________________________________________________________________________ February 23, 2003 HUMMEL NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Hiram sophomore Amanda Hummel (Plymouth, PA/Great Nanticoke Area) led the Terriers to a 1-1 week, including their first-ever NCAC road win, with 38 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals. In Hiram’s 55-53 victory over Oberlin, Hummel notched a career-best 22 points. __________________________________________________________________________ February 9, 2003 OVEROM NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Denison senior Meghan Overom (Duluth, MN/The Marshall School), a 5-8 guard, led the Big Red to three wins last week by averaging 16.7 points in victories over Earlham, Wooster and Oberlin. She combined for 50 points of 15-of-27 shooting from the field. Overom was 5-of-9 (.556) from behind the three-point arc and was 15-of-18 (.833) from the charity stripe. She added 28 rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and four steals to her weekly totals. She is her team’s leading scorer and rebounder, and has a team-best three double-doubles this season. __________________________________________________________________________ February 2, 2003 STEDING NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Allegheny freshman Courtney Steding (McDonald, PA/Fort Cherry) recorded a double-double in both Gator wins last week with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Gators’ 62-57 victory over Denison. She followed that up with 19 points and 12 rebounds against Hiram, a 73-63 victory for Allegheny. She now has five double-doubles this season. __________________________________________________________________________ January 26, 2003 RICHARDSON NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Oberlin senior Malisha Richardson (Cleveland, OH/Shaw) a 5-10 forward, totalled 62 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in two Yeowomen wins last week. With a career-high 39 points against Lake Erie, she became the third Yeowoman to top the 1,000-point mark, joining former head coach Ann Gilbert and former teammate Nzinga Broussard. She added five assists, five steals and two blocks in the wins over Lake Erie and Hiram. Richardson leads Oberlin in scoring (18.9 ppg) and in rebounding (7.7 rpg) and is third and second, respectively amongst NCAC leaders in those categories. __________________________________________________________________________ January 19, 2003 CHAPPELL NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Earlham's Lindsey Chappell (Highland, IN/Highland) has been namedwomen's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Chappell, a 5-10, junior forward, led all scorers with 22 points in the Quakers’ 10-point loss to first-place Wittenberg, and pulled down a game high nine rebounds and added four blocks. Chappell added 29 and 12 rebounds in a defeat of Heidelberg earlier in the week. For the week, she averaged 25.5 points and 10.5 rebounds, and had her seventh double-double in 11 games this year. __________________________________________________________________________ January 12, 2003 HALICKI NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Kenyon's Dana Halicki (North Royalton, OH/Padua Franciscan) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Halicki, a 5-8, sophomore guard, tossed in a combined 26 points, including tying a career-best 18 points against Denison. She hit a pair of three-pointers and was 8-of-9 at the free throw line in the Ladies' two games. Halicki also had 13 rebounds and six steals. __________________________________________________________________________ January 5, 2003 HEIL NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan's Kelly Heil (Sylvania, OH/Southview) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Heil, a 510, sophomore wing, totalled 89 points on 33-of-54 field-goal shooting in three contests last week. She was 14-for-18 from the charity stripe. She opened the week with 30-point effort against Thomas More and followed with a career-high 38 points against Kenyon. Her total against the Ladies places her second on the Bishops all-time single-game scoring list. Her 68 points in consecutive games sets an OWU record. She closed out the week with 21 points against Wooster. __________________________________________________________________________ December 9, 2002 RICE NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Wooster's Kristen Rice (Wooster, OH/Northwestern) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Rice, a 6-0, senior center, scored a career-high 24 points on seven field goals (7-for-15, .467) and 10-of-12 (.833) shooting from the foul line, and matched a career-high rebound total (13) in the 76-60 win over Allegheny. It marked the fourth double-double of her career. __________________________________________________________________________ December 5, 2002 HEIL NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Ohio Wesleyan's Kelly Heil (Sylvania, OH/Southview) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Heil, a 5-10, sophomore wing, drilled a three-pointer to put the Bishops ahead to stay and finished with team bests of 19 points and six rebounds in a 70-68 win at Ohio Northern. Heil then scored eight points during an early 14-0 run, including a three-pointer to put the Bishops ahead to stay, in Ohio Wesleyan's conference opener at Oberlin. She led the Bishops with 21 points. __________________________________________________________________________ November 27, 2002 CHAPPELL NAMED NCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK Earlham's Lindsey Chappell (Highland, IN/Highland) has been namedwomen's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Chappell, a 5-10, junior forward, tallied double digits in all three of the Quakers' games and recorded two double-doubles. In a win over Salem she scored 16 points and pulled down nine rebounds. In Earlham's loss to Centre, she totalled 15 points and 11 boards. In the win over Hanover, she picked up 17 points and rebounds. __________________________________________________________________________
