She added 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and two steals in the 66-60 win over Ohio Wesleyan. It was her 13th double- double in 25 games this season. __________________________________________________________________________ February 15, 2004 Kenyon sophomore Katy Zeanah (New Orleans, LA/Metairie Park) scored the Ladies’ last seven points in a 59-57 win over Wooster. She finished with 19 points and nine boards, then followed with 23 points and seven rebounds in a loss to Allegheny. __________________________________________________________________________ February 8, 2004 Hiram freshman forward Cassie Bedard (Mogadore, OH/Waterloo) led the Terriers to their first conference victory of the season last week. She scored 22 points and added eight rebounds as Hiram defeated Earlham, 69-67, in overtime, and snapped an 11-game losing skid. Bedard contributed 16 points against both Wooster and Wittenberg. For the week, she totaled 54 points on 22-of-37 (.594) shooting and 20 rebounds. __________________________________________________________________________ February 1, 2004 Allegheny sophomore guard Valery Medwid (Coraopolis, PA/Montour) averaged 13 points in two games last week as the Gators stretched their win streak to six and took sole possession of second place in the NCAC. Medwid went 7-of-13 (.538) from the field, including a .750 shooting percentage (6- of-8) from three-point range. She was also 6-for-6 from the charity stripe and added five assists and two steals in two games. She went 3-for-4 (.750) from behind the three-point arc to lead Allegheny with 15 points against Ohio Wesleyan. She leads the NCAC in three-point field goal percentage (26-of-61, .426). The Gators topped the Bishops, 62-58, after scoring 46 second-half points. They had totalled just 16 points in the first half. __________________________________________________________________________ January 25, 2004 Oberlin junior Nicole Burford (Toledo, OH/Rogers) scored 18 points, had eight rebounds and four steals to lead her team’s upset of Ohio Wesleyan. Earlier in the week, Burford added 12 rebounds and nine boards in a victory over Ursuline. In their finest week of the season, the Yeowomen went 2-1, and Burford averaged 11.3 points and 6.7 rebounds. __________________________________________________________________________ January 18, 2004 Wittenberg's Haley Warden (Loveland, OH/Indian Hill) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Warden, a 5-9, senior forward, led the Tigers to a pair of NCAC victories. She scored 12 points with five rebounds against Kenyon, then had 15 points and nine rebounds in the second half alone to finish with 23 points and 12 rebounds against Wooster. Warden leads Wittenberg in scoring (14.1 ppg), rebounding (9.7) and steals (2.13 spg). Her rebounding average leads the NCAC entering the week. She stands fourth in the conference in scoring and ninth in steals. The Tigers have now won 26 straight NCAC regular season games. __________________________________________________________________________ January 11, 2004 Wooster's Michelle Hall (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Hall, a 6-0, sophomore center, scored 43 points in two games, including a career-high 25 in a win over Oberlin. She shot 19-for-26 (.731) from the field and added 20 rebounds, three assists, three blocks and three steals in her team’s two victories last week. __________________________________________________________________________ January 4, 2004 Denison's Kristen Sheffield (Dublin, OH/Scioto) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Sheffield, a 6-0, freshman wing, averaged 17.3 points per game in Denison’s 3-0 week. She scored a career-best 26 against Mt. Vernon Nazarene, then followed with 15 and 11 against Oberlin and Kenyon, respectively. She leads the NCAC in blocked shots with 2.82 per game (31 in 11 games) and is the Big Red’s second leading scorer and rebounder. Denison (8-3 overall) is off to its best start since the 1999-2000 season when they began the year 12-3. The Big Red are riding a six-game winning streak entering this week. __________________________________________________________________________ December 8, 2003 Earlham's Summer Cress (Fremont, IN/Fremont) has been named women's basket- ball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Cress, a 5-10, senior center, scored a game-high 20 points and led four players in double figures as the Quakers defeated Oberlin. Cress, who shot 10-for-17 (.588) from the field, also grabbed eight rebounds and added one steal. __________________________________________________________________________ December 4, 2003 Ohio Wesleyan's Kelly Heil (Sylvania, OH/Southview) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Heil, a 5-10, junior wing, averaged 28.3 points and 10.67 rebounds in three wins last week. Against Case, she scored six of her game-high 28 points during the final :15 as the Bishops finished the game with a 12-0 run. With OWU trailing, 73-71, Heil stole the ball and streaked downcourt for a lay-in to tie the game with :12 left. Fouled on the play, Heil was awarded two free throws and the Bishops retained possession of the ball. Heil hit her first free throw, giving Ohio Wesleyan a 74-73 lead, but missed the second. On the ensuing possession, Heil converted a 3-point play to account for the 77-73 final. She finished with 28 points, eight rebounds. Heil scored 7 consecutive points to put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay against Mt. Union. She broke a 10-10 tie with a three-point play off a fast break to give the Bishops a 13-10 lead with 10:36 left in the first half and went on to lead the Bishops with 30 points and 12 rebounds. Heil led the Bishops with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists in Ohio Wesleyan's NCAC opener against Oberlin. The game featured 22 lead changes and 12 ties. __________________________________________________________________________ November 26, 2003 Kenyon's Katy Zeanah (New Orleans, LA/Metairie Park) has been named women's basketball "Player of the Week" in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Zeanah, a 5-10, sophomore forward, was named MVP of the Muskingum Memorial tournament after she led the Ladies to the tournament title. She scored 41 points, pulled down 22 boards and shot 70 percent from the field in her team's two victories. In last evening's loss to Mt. Union, she recorded her third consecutive double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. __________________________________________________________________________
