__________________________________________________________________________ February 18, 2007 Wooster senior Carly Loehrke (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan), a 6-0 post, totaled 33 points on 13-of-18 shooting (.722) in two games as the Scots went 1-1 on the week, and claimed the sixth seed. She also totaled 17 rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots. Wooster posted its first winning season since 1992-93. Loehrke posted a double-double with 19 points and 12 boards in a 63-56 loss to OWU, then led the Scots past Wittenberg (70-56), for the first time since 1997-98, with 14 points. __________________________________________________________________________ February 11, 2007 Kenyon junior guard Alisha Moreno (Mesa, AZ/Dobson) led the Ladies to a pair of victories last week to lift Kenyon to fourth place in the NCAC standings. For the week, she totaled 27 points, seven three- pointers, seven rebounds and seven assists. Moreno had a game-high 15 points in a 56-49 defeat of Ohio Wesleyan, then had four three- pointers and 12 points in a 47-39 defeat of Earlham. __________________________________________________________________________ February 4, 2007 Denison senior Kristen Sheffield (Dublin, OH/Scioto) helped the Big Red clinch their first NCAC Championship, and the number one seed in the upcoming NCAC Tournament, as she led her team past Oberlin, 82-66, and Wooster, 81-48, posting a combined 35 points and 14 rebounds in the two games. She shot 12-for-23 (.522) from the floor and was 8-for-14 (.571) from beyond the arc. Sheffield leads the Big Red, and the NCAC, in three-point percentage at 46 percent (42-of-92) and is ranked in the top 10 in the league in scoring (7th, 12.0 ppg), rebounding (6th, 6.9 rpg), field goal percentage (4th, 89-193, .461), free throw percentage (2nd, 44-55, .800), 3-point field goals made (4th, 42), blocks (2nd, 2.09 bpg) and defensive rebounds (1st, 127, 5.77 drpg). She has compiled 1,243 career points, 827 rebounds, 308 blocks, 178 assists and 100 steals. __________________________________________________________________________ January 28, 2007 Wooster senior Beth Besancon Sidle (Wooster, OH/Smithville), 5-6 guard, led the Scots to a pair of conference victories last week. Sidle hit six three pointers as part of a game-high 24 points in a 77-71 overtime win at Allegheny. She went on to contribute 10 points and five assists in a 71-59 decision over Earlham. For the week, Sidle combined for 34 points, eight three-pointers, six rebounds, seven assists and two steals. __________________________________________________________________________ January 21, 2007 Earlham's Shontavia Davis (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central), a 5-8, freshman guard, led the Quakers to their second NCAC win of the season, a 72-57 victory over Oberlin. She tied for the game high with 21 points and also chipped in seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals. She was 6-for-12 from the floor and 8-for-9 (.889) from the free throw line. She is second in scoring for Earlham this season, averaging 9.2 points per game overall. She her leads her squad in NCAC games with an 11.3 ppg average. __________________________________________________________________________ January 14, 2007 Wittenberg's Gina Carney (Lexington, KY/Catholic), a 5-5, senior guard/ wing, paced the Tigers in wins over Hiram, 71-41, and Earlham, 70-40. She provided a spark off the bench against the Terriers, hitting all five shots from the field, including a quartet of three-pointers, and finishing with 16 points to go along with two rebounds, two assists and two steals. She then led a trio of players in double figures against Earlham with 14 points. __________________________________________________________________________ January 7, 2007 Denison's Kristen Sheffield (Dublin, OH/Scioto), a 6-0, senior wing, scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 62-49 win over Kenyon and had 15 points, 12 rebounds and thee blocks in a 67-61 win over Ohio Wesleyan last week. She leads the Big Red in scoring at 12.9 points per game and in rebounding at 7.1 rpg. She needs just four blocks to reach the 300 mark for her career - an exclusive honor as only 13 players in NCAA Division III history have recorded more than 300 blocks in their careers. Sheffield has 1,160 career points and 750 rebounds. __________________________________________________________________________ January 2, 2007 Ohio Wesleyan's Rachel Messaros (Reynoldsburg, OH/Bishop Hartley), a 5-9, senior wing, led her team to the championship of the Bishop Tournament. Messaros totaled 46 points on 17-for-26 (.654) shooting, and added six rebounds and two assists. In a 76-68 defeat of North Central, she scored 10 points during a 16-3 first-half run that gave OWU the lead for good. She finished with a career-best 26 points. In a 73-59, championship game victory over Ohio Dominican, she led the Bishops with 20 points. __________________________________________________________________________ December 11, 2006 Allegheny's Katie Kestler (Pittsburgh, PA/Mt. Lebanon), a 5-7, senior guard, averaged 18 points and five rebounds, both team highs, as the Gators won twice last week. Kestler led AC on a 15-point comeback to defeat Westminster, 73-66, with a career-high 23 points. She shot 9-for-14 from the field and 5-for-8 from three-point range, and added five assists, four steals and two rebounds. She followed that with a 13-point, eight-rebound performance in a 67-61 defeat of Ohio Wesleyan. The eight rebounds was a career high. Kestler has hit double figures in every game of Allegheny’s 6-1 start and averages 16.7 points per game. __________________________________________________________________________ December 4, 2006 Kenyon's Hilary Gowins (Delaware, OH/Watterson), a 5-7, junior guard, had one of the best weeks of her career. She scored a career-high 20 points to lead the Ladies to their first win of the season, a 73-71 victory over Muskingum. Three days later, she poured in 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to get the Ladies past Allegheny (58-54). Overall, Gowins had two-game totals that included 38 points, nine rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a 9-of-16 (.563) performance from beyond the three-point arc. __________________________________________________________________________ November 27, 2006 Oberlin's Jessie Oram (New York, NY/Beqcon), a 6-0, senior center, led the Yeowomen to a 76-68 win over Bluffton, scoring a game-high 24 points and tying for the team lead with seven rebounds, two blocks and four assists. She was 10-of-18 (.556) from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Oram contributed 22 of her 24 points in the second half to hand Oberlin the come-from-behind win. She became the fifth player in Yeowomen history to reach the 1,000-point plateau (1,018). __________________________________________________________________________ November 20, 2006 Wooster's Carly Loehrke (Kalamazoo, MI/Mattawan), a 6-0, senior forward, was named the Nan Nichols Classic MVP after she totaled 47 points, 22 rebounds, five assists, and six steals in a pair of wins over Lake Erie (85-52) and Thiel (78-65). She is the sixth player in team history to go over the 1,000-point plateau for her career (1,016). She put together a career-high 34-point, 16-rebound performance in the title game.
