Ohio Wesleyan (10-4) captured its second North Coast title when senior midfielder Alexa Deaton (Eden, MA/Mercersburg Academy) scored the game-winning goal with 23 seconds left in the third sudden death overtime period in the championship game of the NCAC Tournament in Delaware on May 3. The Bishops avenged a 13-10 loss to Wooster in last season's championship game. The top-seeded Battling Bishops reached the final after knocking off fourth-seeded Allegheny, 13-9, in the semifinals. The third-seeded Fighting Scots got past second-seeded Denison, 8-7, the semifinals.

As conference champions, Ohio Wesleyan receives an automatic bid into the 25-team NCAA Division III Championships. The Bishops travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (12-2) for a first-round game on Wednesday. The winner will advance to play The College of New Jersey (15-1) on Saturday in the second round. The national quarterfinals will then be contested the next day. Quarterfinal winners advance to the national semifinals and finals at Donald J. Kerr Stadium in Salem, VA, May 17-18. The championship game will be broadcast live by CBS College Sports Network at noon on May 18.

Ohio Wesleyan is making its second appearance in the national tournament. The Bishops previously reached the NCAA playoffs in 2005, when they lost their only game.
