May 14, 2008 Simmons finished the regular season and NCAC Tournament with 37 goals and seven assists for an average of 2.93 points per game. She makes her fourth straight appearance on the first team. Simmons was named the NCAC's Newcomer of the Year in 2005. Fouts was the defensive cornerstone for the NCAC champion Battling Bishops. She is a repeat first-team selection and was named to the second team in 2006. She was solid on both ends of the field, scoring 37 goals and adding eigiht assists. Two other players are repeat first-team selections: Denison senior Meg Wilcox (Sewickley, PA/Quaker Valley) and Kenyon senior Amanda Drummund (Mayfield Hts., OH/Hawken). Drummond is a four-time All-NCAC choice, as she also earned second-team nods in 2005 and 2006. A pair of Wooster juniors move up to the top squad after earning second-team recognition in 2007: Carly Carey (Cummington, MA/Charlemont) and Hillary Darragh (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township). Oberlin midfielder Taylor Fey (Raymond, ME/Hebron Academy) was voted Newcomer of the Year. The freshman was second in the conference in scoring with 57 goals (4.07 gpg) and 70 points (5.00 ppg). Fey led the conference in draw controls per game (4.21) and caused turnovers per game (1.57). Interim Ohio Wesleyan head coach Marge Redmond been named Coach of the Year for the first time. Redmond, OWU's head field hockey coach, led the Battling Bishops to a 10-5 record and their second NCAC title. |
