Wittenberg won its first North Coast Tournament Championship, and its first NCAC women's soccer title of any kind, with a 1-0 win over Denison in the final game of the 2006 Tournament. Junior Amy Meige knocked home the game-winner in the second half and junior goalkeeper Meghan O'Rourke earned her school-record ninth career shutout to lead the Tigers. In the semifinals, second-seeded Wittenberg, hosting their first NCAC tourney game in school history, defeated the third-seeded Wooster, 2-0, to advance to their second NCAC Tournament championship game in three years. Denison defeteated 2006 regular season champion Kenyon, the number one seed, 6-0, in their semifinal matchup. Sophomore Sarah Ash led the Big Red with a pair of goals and an assist in that contest. As the tournament winner, Wittenberg earns the NCAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

This fall marks the first time Ohio Wesleyan has failed to make the four-team event since it began in 2000. Denison is the only school to make an appearance in each of the seven years of the tournament; the Big Red are the only squad, besides the Bishops, and now the Tigers, to boast of a tournament championship. Denison won the title in 2003. Wittenberg has garnered its fifth tournament nod, Wooster its third and Kenyon its second. Allegheny has made five previous appearances in the conference post-season.
