Second-seeded Wittenberg claimed its third consecutive North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title with a 1-0 double overtime victory over fourth-seeded Wooster in the championship game. The Tigers received a lucky bounce to earn their third straight trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The game-winning sequence began with Wittenberg defender Kelly Foley played a ball into the Wooster penalty box from about 30 yards out. The ball redirected off a Wooster defender, eventually finding the back of the net for the game-winner with 1:13 remaining in the second overtime. The Tigers advanced to their fourth tourney championship game after edging third-seeded Allegheny, 4-2, on penalty kicks in their semifinal matchup. The two teams had battled through two overtime periods and remianed knotted, 0-0. Wooster advanced after besting top-seeded Denison, 1-0. |
