November 16, 2009 Oshita, who earns her second first-team nod, scored 15 goals and added one assist for the NCAC champion Big Red. Denison finished with an overall mark of 16-4-2, earned its eighth NCAC title and its fifth straight, and 13th overall, trip to the NCAA Division III tournament. Amorello also earns her second straight first-team recognition after leading the Tigers to a second-place tie in the conference. She makes her third appearance on the All-NCAC team, as she earned second-team honors in 2007. Amorello helped direct a defensive unit which only allowed one goal at home this fall and which posted 12 overall shutouts in 2009. One other player is a repeat first-teamer: Wooster senior Chantal Koechli (Greer, SC/Brighton, MI), a three-time honoree. She was honorable mention in 2006 in addition to earning first-team honors in 2008. Denison senior Anna Rusch (Washington, DC/Sidwell Friends) and Earlham senior Franny Newport (Toledo, OH/St. Ursula Academy) both move up to the top squad after earning second-team recognition last season. Both players receive their third All-NCAC nod. Rusch was a first-team choice in 2007, while Newport was honorable mention in 2007. Kenyon senior Stefanie Couchman (Chicago, IL/Northside College Prep) and Denison senior Julie Dean (Hamilton, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) make their first-team debuts. Couchman was honorable mention in 2006 and 2007, while Dean was honorable mention in 2008. Allegheny senior Monica Schaffer (Allison Park, PA/Hampton) returns to the all-conference team as a member of the top squad. She was a second-team choice in 2007. Earlham freshman Joy Doucette (Berwyn Hts. MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) was selected Newcomer of the Year after she led the Earlham to the team’s first-ever appearance in the North Coast tournament. She posted a team-best 19 points on seven goals and five assists in 19 games, including the game-winner in the NCAC tournament semifinals which sent the Quakers to their first NCAC tourney championship game. Denison head coach Gail Murphy was voted Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year and third time overall. She guided the Big Red to a 7-0-1 record and the North Coast regular season title. Murphy is 193-56-18 in 13 years at Denison and is 226-89-19 in 24 years as a collegiate head coach. |
