CLEVELAND -- Denison senior Marta Drane (Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill) has been named Player of the Year and Kenyon freshman Amy Schlessman (Sandusky, OH/Perkins) has been named Newcomer of the Year to highlight the 2010 All-North Coast Athletic Conference women's tennis selections.

Drane, who compiled a 14-4 record in singles this spring, also earned first-team All-NCAC doubles. Individually, she is a four-time All-NCAC performer as she was named to the top squad in 2007 and 2009, and was a second-team choice in 2008. Drane was the North Coast's Newcomer of the Year in 2007. She is joined on the first team by three other repeat first-teamers: Denison junior Kristin Cobb (Dayton, OH/Oakwood), Kenyon junior Prita Kidder (Jakarta, Indoesia/Jakarta International), and Oberlin sophomore Ariel Lewis (Vacaville, CA/Vanden).

Schlessman posted a 16-8 record in singles for the Ladies, and earned first-team All-NCAC in both singles and doubles.

Drane and Cobb combined to earn first-team recognition in doubles for the third straight season. Kidder and Schlessman also were first team in doubles, and Lewis combined with sophomore Finley Gates (Fairway, KS/Shawnee Mission East) round out first-team doubles selections.

Denison's Peter Burling is the women's tennis Coach of the Year for the ninth time and sixth year in a row. He guided the Big Red to their ninth straight and 10th overall North Coast title with a 16-4 mark. He has a 186-56 (.766) record in the 11 seasons he has coached the women's team at Denison. Burling also coaches the Big Red men's tennis team and has earned this honor seven times in that role.
