__________________________________________________________________________ DENISON PROFILES Brian Goldthorpe Senior, North Canton, OH Communication/Political Science Major Swims Sprint Freestyle/ Butterfly The Big Red sprint corps is led by Senior Brian Goldthorpe who over his last three years at Denison has established himself as one of Big Redıs most talented sprint butterflyers. He is currently a member of the varsity record- holding 200 Medley Relay. Last season, Goldthorpe had a spectacular showing at the NCAA Championship meet, anchoring Big Redıs first-place 200 Free Relay, second-place 400 Free Relay, and third-place 400 Medley Relay. He also finished sixth and fifteenth in the 100 Fly (50.56) and 100 Free (46.61), respectively. In total, Goldthorpe has earned seven All-America titles in his three years with Denison. Goldthorpe began his season with an impressive showing at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays. Contributing to the Big Red menıs overall second place finish, Goldthorpe swam in four relays, posting the two fastest butterfly splits for the Big Red men. Goldthorpe is also well established in the classroom, carrying a 3.92 GPA. He is a three time Academic All-American and was recently named in Whoıs Who Among American College Students. Amy DeVito Senior, Webster, NY Psychology/ Educational Studies Major Swims Individual Medley, Freestyle During her three years at Denison, DeVito has shown unprecedented versatility in her swimming, setting records for the Big Red in three individual events and one relay. A 13-time All-America award winner, she is the current team record holder in the 200 Free, 200 IM, 400 IM, and a member of the record- holding 800 Free Relay team. At the 2000 NCAA Championships, DeVitoıs versatility and talent was evident. Individually, she placed second in the 200 IM (2:07.54), fourth in the 400 IM (4:31.74), and tenth in the 200 Fly (2:08.91). She was also on the second-place 400 Free Relay and fifth place 800 Free Relay squads. This season, DeVito lead the Big Red women to their first victory of the season at the North Coast Athletic Conference Relays, swimming a total of five relays, four of which were victorious. Originally from Webster, NY, DeVito is an active participant of the Licking County Big Brother/Big Sister program. She also serves as a senior interviewer for Denisonıs Admissions office. -- Contributing Writer Jessica Walker __________________________________________________________________________ OBERLIN PROFILES John Limouze Senior, Cincinnati, OH Bio/History Major Swims All Strokes Yeoman co-captain Last season, Limouze won the NCAA Championship in the 200 butterfly, touching the wall in 1:50.47. His goal this year is to defend his title, and to lower his time in his signature event to below the 1:50 mark. John has made steady improvement in each of his three years at Oberlin, building on his strong high school career. He was a Y All-American his senior year in high school, swimming the 200 fly in 1:53+. His first year as a Yeoman, he lowered his time (1:52.21) and finished fifth at the NCAA championship meet. As a sophomore, he dropped his time to 1:51.25 at the December shave meet, and lowered it even further (1:50.75) to finish third at the NCAAıs, narrowly missing the championship. Academically, Limouze is a national merit scholar, and is a John Frederick Oberlin Scholarship winner. Celeste Mercer Junior, Montrose, CO Physics Swims Back/IM/Free Through her first two years as a Yeowoman, Mercer has established herself as the best female swimmer in Oberlin history. Last season, she became the Yeowomenıs first-ever female All-America award winner after placing sixth at the NCAA Championships in the 100 yard backstroke. She also placed in the 50 yard freestyle. Mercer has rewritten Oberlinıs record book. The junior owns every freestyle record, from the 50 through the 200, both backstroke records, and is a member of all five record-setting relay teams. She is the winner of a John Heismann merit scholarship, and was valedictorian of her high school class. __________________________________________________________________________ WABASH PROFILES R.J. Morgan Junior Indianapolis, IN/Perry Meridian HS Wabash College junior R.J. Morgan has been one of the leaders for the Little Giants in the water each meet this season. He earned All-American honors at the NCAA Championship Meet as freshman and attached his name to four school records by the end of his sophomore season. Morgan received All-Conference honors at the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship in the 200 yard medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay. This season he has continued as one of the leaders in the water for the Little Giants. He owns season-best times in nine different events. Morgan has topped the Wabash time charts in the 50 free (21.95), 100 free (48.30), as well as the 100 backstroke (53.52) and 200 back (1:56.81). He also has continued his relay performances, swimming leadoff on relay teams that own season-best times in the 200 medley relay (2:00.89) and 400 medley relay (3:36.46). He has also been the anchor on the fastest 200 free relay (1:27.45) and 400 free relay (3:17.30) this season for the Little Giants. Craig Haupert Freshman Cedar Lake, IN/Lowell HS Freshman Craig Haupert has made a big splash in the Wabash swimming program as a freshman. The two-time Most Valuable Swimmer at Lowell High School in Northwest Indiana came to Wabash after setting six high school records and earning four swimming sectional championships. He has continued that winning style this season as a member of the Little Giant team. Haupert has earned several first-place finishes, including a first in the 100 breast- stroke at the DePauw Invitational in December with a time that is currently the fourth fastest in the nation this season (58.19). Haupert is part of the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay, 200 freestyle relay, and 400 freestyle relay teams that have set top times for the Little Giants this season.
