KENYON EARNS 13TH CONSECUTIVE NORTH COAST
CROWN; PETROCK TAKES TOP INDIVIDUAL HONORS
OBERLIN, Ohio -- Thirteen-time defending NCAA Division III champion Kenyon broke six records and posted 14 first-place finishes on the way to its 13th consecutive title at the North Coast Athletic Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, which were held Feb. 13-15 at Oberlin's Robert K. Carr Pool.
Kenyon won nine individual events and all five relays on the way to 912 points. The Ladies also displayed depth as 11 swimmers and one diver recorded a total of 21 top-three finishes. Denison picked up four individual wins and totaled 806 points to finish second for the sixth straight season and ninth time overall. Allegheny improved one spot from a year ago to take third with 462 points, followed by Wooster (429) in fourth, Ohio Wesleyan (272) in fifth and CWRU (255), Wittenberg (233) and Oberlin (110) in places six through eight.
Kenyon senior Katie Petrock (Ann Arbor, MI/Pioneer) earned Swimmer of the Year honors after breaking NCAC records with wins in the 100 back (59.37), 200 back (2:05.05) and 200 medley (2:07.37). Sophomore Amelia Armstrong (Midlothian, VA/Clover Hill) also eclipsed a North Coast record for the Ladies on her way to a win in the 400 medley (4:33.73). Armstrong joined Petrock as a three-time winner by touching first in the 500 free (5:05.25) and 1650 free (17:26.02). Kenyon's other records came in the 800 free relay (7:45.15) and 400 medley relay (3:59.71).
Sophomore Marisha Stawiski (Grand Rapids, MI/Forest Hills) and freshman Becky White (Bloomington, IL/Bloomington) complete the list of Kenyon's individual champions. Stawiski defended her title in the 50 free (24.42) and added one in the 100 free (52.48), while White won the one-meter diving competition (340.90) and was named Diver of the Year.
Denison sophomores Kelly Lotts (State College, PA/State College Area) and Anna Tuttle (Albuquerque, NM/LaCueva) successfully defended their NCAC titles in the 100 breast (1:08.03) and 200 fly (2:08.92), respectively. The Big Red also received championship swims from sophomores Allison Edsall (Circleville, OH/Circleville) in the 100 fly (59.58) and Sandi Sample (LaGrange, IL/Lyons Township) in the 200 free (1:55.65). The remaining individual wins went to Allegheny sophomore Ann Magdic (Irwin, PA/Norwin) in the 200 breast (2:25.23) and Wooster senior Julia Snoddy (South Portland, ME/South Portland) in three-meter diving (327.80).
